HD DVR Help

I just got my HD DVR from Time Warner Cable installed. I have the video going to my TV, Panasonic 50PZ700U, via an HDMI and the audio going to my receiver through fiber optic. I have to keep switching my aspect ratio because the SD stations are 4:3. I thought there was a setting to make the image fill the screen. I have programmed an "aspect" button in my Harmony 670 to fix it, but it is annoying. Anybody have any idea? Would it matter if I used component?

Get into the setup menu on the cable box you should have an aspect ratio option also you will also have an option to select you signals that the box pass to the tv.

Is it a Moto box? If it is while the cable box is on press POWER OFF(cable box not TV) then imediately press menu and it will bring up a setup menu and you can change the 4:3 override to stretch.

If it's not a Moto box then I don't know.

I think for mine, I had to deselect the 480i/p in the video settings and just leave 720p and 1080i. I would try that first, then possibly call time warner.

Make sure the TV aspect ratio is set to 16:9 in the settings of your cable box. Then make sure you have the settings in the box set to "stretch" or whatever the equivilent is for that brand of box.

The cable box will not stretch HD pictures that are already 16:9 but will stretch any 4:3 standard def picture.

Of course your TV should not be set to manipulate the picture at all. It should be set to "standard", or again, whatever the equivilent is on you TV.

No, your connection method does not matter.

The Pioneer KURO's have an automatic detection setting that makes the adjustment for you.

This is just one more reason to choose a Pioneer KURO over the other brands.

Why stretch the 4:3 image?
I don't know about you, but watching a stretched image annoys the hell out of me.

Except I own a Panasonic, no matter how nice a Kuro is, I bought my plasma for $900 in August of '07. Hard to beat.

I wouldn't say that I hate them. I don't mind seeing them when I watch a movie. I hate side bars when I watch TV. There is nothing wrong hating black bars or side bars. I know that they are supposed to be there, but this is America and I can do what I want.
