Default A bit annoyed with 'Digital Copy'

The purpose of this thread is not to complain as such - more point something to prospective Blu importers.

First off, I'm in the UK and no Blu-rays released over here currently have 'Digital Copys' included with them. I recently imported in 'Rambo' from the US (region free) which included my very first digital copy.

So, I figured I would blast it on the PC and get it transferred over to my iPod touch - may as well make use of it.

Anyway, putting the disc in and selecting the iTunes option I am prompted for my password which I duly enter. I am then faced with the message 'This code is for US/Canadian account holders only'. So I can't actually transfer the digital copy it is (for lack of a better term) region locked! It did, however, let me do the wmv transfer, but that means converting etc and I'm not THAT desperate for it on my iPod.

So why is this? Why have a region free Blu-ray and then region lock the Digital Copy? Seems strange to me. I'm not too bothered in this case as I bought it for the Blu-ray not the additional copy.

I guess it's just a heads up for anyone else importing Blu's with 'Digital Copy' included from the US.

Ummm, thanks for listening!

Because iTunes is seperated into different countries and the code is only authorized for the US store.

You solution is to import a US iTunes giftcard and use it to establish an iTunes US account, then use that to enable your digital copies

Should work just fine. I have an iTunes Japan account

Yeah, it is pretty painless and opens up alot of options.
I did the itunes japan myself because there is alot of music they offer that I enjoy. (Same reason I am glad that they are releasing a Rockband Japan)

Not really. It only has a one time code, and once put in, its locked to that computer forever. Yes you can bring over friends ipods or w/e and put them on there, but big whoop.

I own all the digital copies, and must say they are really cool.

THE UK gets way more than we do.. you guys get the ALONE IN THE DARK limited edition, and more steelbooks than america does, id trade digital copies for those things anyday

I dont mind digital copy ( i dont use it personally) but I dont want to pay extra for it. So far, most of the movies that have it, the MSRP seems a bit higher just because of it.

Nothing had had an extra fee tagged onto it because of digital copy, nor is it likely to in the future

They're there first and foremost as a piracy deterrant.

I know, but theyre taking too long -_-V having a digital copy is great for people in school or college, it really kills the time.

Except when I was watching "THE EYE" today in class and I jumped cuz the noise came outta nowhere -_-V

One thing I don't understand is how does the computer read the digital copy on a blu-ray? or do they just put it on a DVD disc in the same box? I remember hearing that Sony was gonna start something similar with their blu-rays, only you load it onto your PSP through the PS3, with no way of getting it on an ipod.

Just wondering, cause the only time I got a digital copy was with Blue Harvest, and that was a second disc, but that was on DVD. It seems like a good idea, but I hate how they put a big ugly banner on the cover announcing it on the front. Again, my copy of Blue Harvest only had it as a sticker on the big outer box.

The studios probably save a bit on royalties by saving Apple bandwidth. I fully expect that within 12 months the PS3 and future dedicated Blu players will have the ability to take digital copies and transfer them over USB or LAN to your chosen device
