Hello all. Sorry if this is in the wrong section!
So I just wanted to know (and it may seem very stupid to ask) but I've been interested in purchasing the "Remastered" Robocop on Blu-Ray, which is this version: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-...obocop/565110/ It states that it's "Remastered from 4K source elements". Now I'm not quite "in-the-know" when it comes to 4K TV's and all - but basically, can I just watch this on a ordinary blu-ray played (PS3) on a HD TV? (Not a 4K TV) I do apologise if it seems a painfully obvious question haha. Also while on the subject, am I right in guessing this copy of "The Amazing Spider-Man" is just for 4K TV's? - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-...an-the/481551/ |

So yes, you can play the discs you mentioned on your Blu-ray player, as you would with any other Blu-ray Disc. ![]() |

Basically it's all marketing bullsh!t. What it means is the film elements, (whether it be the Interpositive, Internegative or the archival Print master) are scanned at 4k resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) or higher then downsized to Blu-ray resolution of 2k (1920x1080 pixels) and them masterered to a disc. Now let me just say at this point in time THERE ARE NO 4K BLU-RAYS. All blu-rays have a maximum resolution of 2k (1920x1080 pixels). When they say the discs are optimized for 4k TVs, what they mean is "well it's as good as we could get it so it should look even better on our 4k upscaling TVs. There's also a propriety format of colour space that supposedly gives you a better image if played back on Sony brand screens with a compatible BR player. Also, the 4k mastering process has been around for years, it's not a new thing, it's just the desk jockeys over at Sony have copyrighted this phrase to dupe the ignorant public into thinking it's some sort of miracle product. What it's actually doing is causing confusion to the average Joe Punchclock. |

Ah ok awesome thanks a lot guys
![]() I've heard the Robocop "Remastered" blu-ray is a vast improvement over the original blu-ray release (plus you know, it's Robocop ![]() So as far as that Spider-Man blu-ray I linked above goes, just to confirm, that would also work as normal even though it's "Mastered in 4K"? IS there much difference between the original blu-ray release for The Amazing Spider-Man and the "4K" release? |

Robocop's remastered blu ray looks heaps better detail wise (see screenshots on this site for both editions) but the colours are different to the previous release.
As for Spiderman, same deal, its mastered/scanned in 4k but the encode on the blu ray is in 1080p. But the difference in quality between that disc and the original Amazing Spiderman blu ray will be negligible. |

Ah ok. Thanks again. Might skip Spider-Man in that case.
Debating whether to grab the remastered versions of The Good The Bad and The Ugly, and Rocky (both are amongst my favourite films) |

Notice how everything is obscenely yellow like Tuco'sa teeth in screenshot 1? And of course if you add yellow to blue, the sky turns green (screenshot 3). And here's Rocky. Last edited by Supernaut; 08-07-2014 at 12:33 PM. |

A while back I posted some comparison screenshots from both blus (as well as the Criterion DVD for good measure). They can be found here, here, and here. Last edited by SGB; 08-08-2014 at 02:28 AM. |

I have friends with whom I've debated this (prove me right, lol), but though it's higher resolution than the format can handle, doesn't a 4K master mean more resolution from which to downscale, and therefore better picture?

4k DI so you would think so. Basically it is just a transfer with a slightly higher bit rate. You would be silly to get it over the 2d/3d release with special features though as you miss out on so much and get a bump in pq you will likely never notice when watching the film.
