Crutchfield would be a good place for research but their prices will choke even the deepest pockets. Find what you want and then go to Amazon.

Don't you want to hear them first? I would never buy speakers without hearing them.

I too live in Canada and was giving serious thought to these:

http://axiomaudio.com/

Free shipping in Canada plus you can demo them for 30 days.

Edit> here's the exact setup I'm looking into:

find what you want in stores around you, go listen to them then write down their info and look it up here

www.shopzilla.com

saved me literally thousands on my set up.

I hope you have already heard the speakers you plan to buy over the internet. Buying a speaker setup without hearing them first is a very big mistake. Speakers do not all sound the same. I recommend going to a smaller store since they will take better care of you. I would recommend that you check out B&W. You didn't mention a price point but well worth it.

Agreed, if you want to get into audio in any kind of serious way, a good local dealer to get your gear from is a must.

to add my $0.02.... even if the speakers have received rave reviews from every magazine in North America, you may hear them differently than everyone else... so like everyone else has said... make sure you try before you buy... i mean, you wouldnt buy a house just from looking at the outside of it and on the word of the realtor that it's a good buy would you?

I have heard quite a few different speakers, that's why I said I prefer Polk. I like the warmth and full sound of polk.

I have never heard B&W, I have heard from other people that they sound great, and damn...they look good, but I would want to hear them first.

I have done a lot of research on speakers, and found that I like Polk I do not know if we have any local dealers of high end speakers, we might but out of everyone I know, I know the most about speakers. It sucks because I have no one to talk to about them, so thats why I come here

Also Amazon.com, doesn't ship to Canada, something about warranty...or whatever...I have tried before when I bought my 805, but had to buy it from ebay.

Thanks guys for all your help

I just got my Axioms today!

I got the M60s, VP150 and QS8s.

I'm from Montreal and I ordered the factory seconds (10% off) and I haven't seen a scratch on them! The speakers are really well built and the price is really affordable for the quality you get. The only problem is I've got to finish my wiring before I can listen to them...

For the sub, I'm gonna get a SVS 20-39PCi (or the "Plus" model), the official distributer for SVS in Canada is www.sonicboomaudio.com

Good luck and I'll post my impressions soon (I hope a week but it's probably gonna be two...).

I also have a Athena+Polk speakers setup in the living room but it's not as sweet as my Axioms!
