USA The Avengers (TV Series 1961–1969) Season 5 in Color Nov 11

The Avengers: Season 5 Blu-ray

Release date: November 11

Quote:
Shown in Great Britain for more than five years (debuting in 1961) before it caught on in America, "The Avengers" is a secret-agent thriller that almost bests James Bond. Jonathan Steed - an urbane, proper gentleman spy - and adventurous citizen Emma Peel repeatedly saved the world from diabolical schemes plotted by equally diabolical evil-doers (among them robots and man-eating monsters). Emma Peel, in her leather boots and mini-skirts, is now considered one of the most liberated women on 60's television.

OMG! This would be epic. Although it's been out on DVD for ages, a BD release would surely be a fantastic upgrade. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

Sadly only 2 and 1/3rd episodes from Season 1 actually exist.

There has been a listing for this on the Amazon France site for a few weeks now.

The Avengers Vol.3 Blu-ray

About time Lionsgate (re)released an classic A&E title, and on Blu-ray no doubt! The funny thing is that The Avengers is StudioCanal property sublicensed by A&E and StudioCanal also has a deal with Lionsgate!

Now if only Lionsgate could release Monty Python's Flying Circus on DVD again (and remastered).

Since the MSRP listed is $29.99, it's likely just one season, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Apparently...something is coming on November 11.

http://videoeta.com/movie/165002/the-avengers-season-5/

UPC 031398207719

Distributor listed: Lionsgate (They have released the complete series on DVD last year).

So, according to them it's season 5 only. That doesn't make much sense as none of the previous seasons have received the blu-ray treatment in US so far.

The DVD listing doesn't make any sense either. Lionsgate has released the complete series on DVD last year.

So, that leaves room for a few possibilities :

1.It's the listing for Season 1 on blu-ray.

2. It's the listing for complete series on blu-ray (The complete series soon to be released on BD in Europe, courtesy of StudioCanal, I believe.).

3. Bogus listing (happened before).

Let's see what comes out of this.

If the whole things is bogus, the thread will be deleted.

Umm, Season 5 makes perfect sense. The first 3 were shot on tape, so no HD release of them would be worthwhile.

Season 4 began their shooting on film but was B&W.

Season 5 is the first color season, so if you're going to gauge the potential of other seasons it makes sense to begin with this one. If this won't sell Season 4 won't, which is the other Emma Peel season.

Don't overthink this stuff. It'll be season 5.

I recall reading that seasons 1 through 3 were shot on videotape, a common practice on early UK tv shows. From season 4 onwards it was shot on film (like The Prisoner for example). It's also rumoured that The Avengers will appear on BD in the UK starting with season 4.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they only released a complete Emma Peel set last year, not the entire series.

Yes, I think all of the Emma Peel episodes are available but some of the other seasons have episodes missing.

It's only worth releasing them from season 4 onwards in HD because that was the first season to be shot on film (and the first season featuring Emma Peel). All seasons before were shot on video, look rather blurry and would not benefit from a Blu-ray release in terms of PQ.

Although I suppose a HD set in this country wouldn't be a total waster given it was shot on PAL. Thinking about it I'd actually like to see what it would look like. Some of those Honor Blackmon one's weren't bad and I've only ever seen 1 episode from S1.

Doesn't look so bogus now, they updated the page with cover art stating "Blu-ray+Digital Copy". Didn't see this coming in the slightest ... plus that means more Diana Rigg in HD just in time for Christmas.

BTW, The Avengers set released last year was only the Emma Peel episodes.

Granted, I'm not familiar with this series, so you're right. I didn't do any research about this. My bad.

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes!

Fantastic news. The one I most wanted too (and I suppose I can compare it to the remastered series 6 to see if there'd be any point in upgrading that in the event of release).

Brilliant.

Not only remastered, but unedited. The A&E release had some episodes cut. The company that produced the releases for A&E back then was New Video, a company filled with idiots. I know was their consultant for 8 years on the I.T.C. catalog.
It was a nightmare dealing with those fools.
