They're actually going to make a Shazam movie?

Of all the stupid supers that DC have in their stables, this might be the worst of them all, and a pretty bad "magical" knockoff of Superman to boot...

Billy Batson is still better than stuff like Wildcat or Plastic Man or about half the Green Lantern Corp.

Now, now. Let's not be trashy. I hate Johnson in any role, so it doesn't surprise me that they will contaminate Captain Marvel just like they did Superman, and evidently now Wonder Woman and Aquaman. God help us.

Could be the right movie to bring a more whimsical fun to the shared DC Universe. Looking forward to it.

I've never liked Shazam. The idea of a kid turning into a grown man superhero never clicked with me, and I always thought it was lame.

On another note, am I the only one who thinks Shazam and its concept could have been an 80s movie? A kid is granted the abilities of six mythological beings when he shouts the word "Shazam!" Oh, and it involves a wizard. Total 80s movie material.

the biggest "face palm" about all of this is the lack of spoiler tags from members quoting others in this thread!

what? No the last wizard of the wizarding council imbues Batson with the powers of the Greek mythological gods

I love Cpt Marvel! Can't wait to see it, I just hope they don't turn it into a comedy... and I agree that Dwayne would be better suited to be Black Adam
But I've no problem with him as Cpt. Marvel other than imagining him as the tooth fairy

Hal Jordan is DC's chosen Green Lantern, so that was always unlikely.

SHAZAM Is Set In The DC Cinematic Universe; James Gunn Would Direct If He Could
Quote:
It appears that DC Comics have confirmed that Shazam will indeed be set in the same Cinematic Universe as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn reveals that it's the DC Comics movie he'd most be interested in...

For a variety of reasons, some comic book fans believe that Shazam (which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam) will NOT be set in the DC Cinematic Universe. Have DC Comics themselves finally set the record straight? It appears that way, as a blog post from the comic book publisher highlights the announcement of a DC Cinematic Universe, pointing out that Warner Bros., "revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe." Of course, just because all of these movies take place in the same world, that doesn't mean we'll see constant crossovers. Like Guardians of the Galaxy, Shazam will more than likely just expand the DC Cinematic Universe! Talking of that Marvel team, director James Gunn was asked on Facebook whether he would like to helm a DC Comics movie and if he is precluded (prevented from) making one. "I am precluded. Would have loved to have done Shazam." That would have been something to see, eh? What do you guys think? Be sure to share your thoughts on all of this below...
DC Comics Confirms Shazam Set In Same Movie Universe As Batman V. Superman
Quote:
Despite some remarks that led fans to believe otherwise, Warner Bros.' upcoming film adaptation of DC Comics' Shazam will be set in the same, shared cinematic universe as Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

That's according to a year-end wrap-up piece over at the DC Blog, where the publisher named the announcement of the film slate as one of the year's "Moments That Mattered."

Here's the pertinent bit:

Quote:
Yes, there were rumors of some sort of film slate, mentions that Warner Bros. had “big plans” for DC Entertainment and occasional informal announcements (like the news that New Line had a Shazam movie in development). But for fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they’ve seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn’t seem to be a lot to talk about.

That changed on October 15, 2014, when Warner Bros. revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe. The list included the movies we were hoping to see—Wonder Woman will get her own film, while the Justice League will get TWO movies. However, it also included quite a few surprises. A standalone Cyborg movie! A Flash feature starring Ezra Miller! A Suicide Squad movie! And coming in 2016, no less!!
Referring to the ten films as "all" taking place in the same universe is telling. Comments made by star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on Twitter had led some fans to question whether it would take place in the same universe or not, but it appears that, if anything, the wall between Shazam and the other DC movies will be more like the separation between Guardians of the Galaxy and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: A somewhat permeable wall which allows the filmmakers maximum freedom while still giving the studio the option of sharing characters back and forth.

DC should definitely have every single one of their future films have a shared universe to take advantage of Marvel's problem of not being able to do the same with all of their characters due to rights issues (Marvel, Fox, Sony).
