Default Do current 4K TVs that are already available break down easier than 1080p ones?

Since 4K is a relatively new technology, is it a gamble buying a current 4K TV and risk that it gets broken down after not too long? I mean, compared to just buying a new 1080p TV?

What brands make the most reliable 4K TVs?

It's the same technology if you are comparing like with like. I suppose you could say your 4 times more likely to get a dead pixel on a 4K set as there are four times as many pixels to go wrong. I fully expect the 4K haters to jump all over the last point like a b**** on heat.

There's not that much difference, really. Many of the features are identical.

OLED may have some problems with dead pixels, and the technology needs time to mature, but the LED's are pretty much the same. The newer standards - 10 or 12 bit units, enhanced color, and so on, aren't really out yet.

I like Sony. I've owned four, and still have three. Two are rear projection units, and one had the optical block problem, but otherwise, no issues. The LED unit (an XBR2, purchased as "refurbished" from Sony direct) has never had a problem since day one, and my original 70" projection has never failed.

I don't hate it, I believe that 4K sets are pretty much not worth it at this time (due to the lack of 4K content).

I just hope you won't hate the Orioles by the end of the baseball season, as I'm from Baltimore.

Reliability is not the issue. The 4K standard is the issue, which is probably going to have to be changed. I would advise you to go to the Value Electronics site and watch the presentation from the "Shootout" last week by Joe Kane. He addresses many of the problems with 4K.
