Default 'Be Kind Rewind' Impressions

Hey, thought I'd post my impression.

Movie: 8.5/10
I was a big fan of this in theaters, so if you like movies, or make movies with your friends, this is a really cool movie to watch.

PQ: 7.5-8/10
Better than I remember in theaters. The color palette is subdued, and there seems to be a nice, subtle grain throughout. A bit of a haze to it, but I remember it in the theater. Detail is great.

AQ: 8/10
Standard comedy AQ. Can't really fault it for that.

Special Features: 8.5/10
I was surprised at the amount of features, considering the SD only had the Passaic Mosaic featurette and the trailer. There's about an hour's worth of stuff that isn't on the DVD, so I was pretty impressed. Here's a list of the features and their running times:

Blu-ray exclusive:
Booker T & the Michel Gondry: 6min 41sec
Jack & Mos Improvise Songs: 4min 58sec
A Conversation with Jack Black and Michael Gondry: 6min 3sec
Fats was Born "Here": 11min 28sec
The Making of Be Kind Rewind: 33min 20sec
A Tribute to Fats Waller: 6min 6sec

On Blu-ray and DVD:
Passaic Mosaic: 10min 22sec
Trailer: 2min 30sec

Anyway, I'm really impressed with the Blu-ray.

That's what they're there for.

I am a big fan of both Mos Def and Jack Black and wanted to see this in theaters. But the reviews were bad so I waited. I was going to rent the SD Dvd, but after reading your review maybe I'll rent the blu.

I liked the concept of this movie but thought they tried too hard with the weirdness. Must give it another go though.

Ya it wasn't good. The whole concept of the movie was SO ridiculous and they tried to play it kind of serious. It was kind of weird..

Its warner-smoothied, but has a dash of New Line (7.1 DTS HD MA) left in it. Looks like In and Out, tastes like burger king.

I thought it was very funny. How can you not laugh at some of those jokes?

I wanted to laugh so much when they did the whole
[Show spoiler]Ghostbusters
remake, but I found myself cringing more than actually laughing.

Not to say the movie is bad, it did have it's moments.

I always recommend anyone view Rotten Tomatoes for film reviews. It combines the reviews of dozens of critics into one big score to gain a better perspective on a quality of a film.

Well, I hadn't even heard about it until a week or so ago, now all of a sudden I see it's being released on Blu-Ray pretty soon.

If you're really unsure about spending your money on it I would suggest borrowing it from a friend or maybe even renting it first.

I think it's a movie you'll either consider overrated or underrated, personally I find it overrated but again, that doesn't mean it's a bad movie as such.

Of course, that only works if you don't find critics to be complete morons...

Compared to his other stuff, this is basically Gondry-lite. It takes about 30 minutes to set everything up (too long in my opinion) and there were about two (two!) montage sequences featuring the sweded films. I would have preferred to have more of that, to be honest since that's what we came here for. And I was hoping there would be more sweded films on the extras. The ending was pretty good though, reminded me of Cinema Paradiso but still a way too neat exercise for an ending. The Fats Waller bit annoyed me a bit since it kind of became a hindrance to the flow but yeah... the whole movie is confused, to say the least

I have been looking at sweded films made by fans on you tube and they're way funnier than the movie (like Gondry sweding the trailer for Be Kind and other people sweding the trailer for Once).

I liked it, but I assume most people looking for a Jack Black comedy will be dissapointed.

That's a good system. I just go watch the movie and make up my own mind. Little less work. Better results.
