I did this yesterday because a friend nominated me for the challenge. I called out a few people, then donated $100 to http://alsa.org/

I just don't see the point of this. Helping out charities with donations is great, but what does that have to do with an old sports tradition?

It's just a thing someone started doing to raise awareness for the charity/disease and it caught on.

It's something that has gotten completely out of hand. I agree with Moviefan2k4. It is pointless. I'm all for donating money to good causes, but when you do stuff for self-gratification, it becomes pretty ridiculous. Just my opinion.

It's just spreading the word and raising a ton of money and getting more people involved in the cause so it's not pointless. You might see it that way but it isn't.

Yeah, I am going to decline if one of my friends nominates me for this. I am just not into this fad...

I think the custom is that if you accept the challenge, you donate 10 dollars. If you decline, you donate 100 dollars.

It's for an extremely good cause, saying it's "pointless" or "getting out of hand" is ridiculous.

It's a waste of water. There is only 3% of clean drinking water on this planet. The ONLY one that took the "challenge" responsibly was Matt Damon, he used toilet water.

Agreed, they have collected about 95 million dollars. While no one really knows how much people donated in the end, there are more than 3 million donators according to alsa. The one I know has given the most so far is Charlie sheen w $10k

Sure, the "only" one... Charley sheen threw a bucket filled w money and donated 10k. There are many people that used rainwater etc. Toilet water comes from the same main water lines of many people btw. Also, this complaint about water loss is ridiculous. You waste more water in the shower or watering your lawn than a bucket of water. If you didn't want to throw water you could just donate like I did, but doesn't mean you have to give bs excuses on "water loss". I didn't care much for the challenge but a foundation got more money than ever to try to help people w this condition and try to find a cure.
