United Kingdom Modern Family Season 5 Blu Ray

So Modern Family Season 5 comes out on DVD next month, but there's still no word of a release date for the blu ray? Seems strange as all the others came out. Does anybody know anything about this?

Only a DVD release has been registered with the BVA, so that looks likely...

Yup, seems Fox has dropped all upcoming Modern Family BD releases worldwide.

That's disappointing then, same with releases like Family Guy and The Simpsons, wish we could get them on Blu Ray but obviously the market mustn't be big enough for TV shows on blu ray at the moment.

Well colour me disappointed. Jeez! Why do I even bother buying TV on Blu? Disappointed almost all the time.

Warner is the most reliable with releases, but the least reliable for HD audio. Can't win no matter what it seems.

Gah!

Fox has been pretty good with Simpsons (in NA at least). We've gotten one a year, every year for a while. I mean, we'll never catch up at that rate, but I can deal with a steady trickle.

I recently sold all my Modern Family BD sets due to this stupid decision by Fox. I'm done with buying TV on BD, and I refuse to buy new shows on DVD!

To be fair, you can't really expect studios to go to great expense for a product few people will buy, and if you like cult shows (like I do) it's something you just have to deal with. Although, shame on Sony for dropping all the extras from the recent Community S5 release (which is only 13 episodes) and still expecting full price for it...

And despite some lossy audio hiccups, Warner Bros. have been putting out some fairly good TV releases, and Fox have been nice enough to stick with Futurama, although I did hear that Futurama was revived in part due to strong home media sales...

This is insane. Another piracy inducing decision. Either buy it in low res, or pirate it.

I can't believe any studio is still producing DVD only tv releases of any current series. It is NOT an issue of source availability. There is no excuse other than stupidity.

I'm actually truly at a loss what to do. I loved the blu ray releases.

It is available in HD, from places like iTunes. The facts are that blu-rays are expensive to produce, and if they aren't making a decent sized profit, it's not worth it, fans of the show will just buy the DVDs, if it sells well they can go back and do a blu-ray, and I'd imagine most casual purchases are DVD anyway, so the studio aren't really losing out that much by culling the release...

And I wouldn't completely write off the chances of a blu-ray release, Fox licensed The Killing to Mediumrare in the UK, maybe they'll do something similar further along the line...

What? Really? Sons of W****S! What an idiotic decision, it's like one of the most popular sitcoms of recent years and they can't even be bothered to put anymore on blu. Fair enough if they're doing it because they didn't sell well but only because the original price point was beyond ridiculous, I mean no one is going to pay full price. I take SMALL consolation that it is worldwide but other than that, F**k YOU, Fox!!!

Hmm, $40 for the season here (Aus) in hd. And no extras. Then I have to muck about to get it to my TV. Hmm.

Putting out seasons from the start on BD, and then suddenly stopping after 4 seasons is beyond annoying.

Seriously how are DRM'd downloads even an option? I have a splitting headache trying to figure which of the 50 permutations available I'd have to do to be able to play it on my equipment. I have a new sony Xperia phone with a 1080p screen, a couple of sony ps3s, a new sony 3d tv, we have iphone 5s, ipad air, and a host of devices. I can buy the individual episodes in hd at a ridiculous cost from Sony video unlimited (unlimited my ###) but is says my phone isn't hd compatible even though it has a full 1080p HD screen. If I use video unlimited from my ps3 I might be able to, but I might not have enough hdd space so might need an upgrade. They don't sell full seasons in Sony, just $4 per episode, so a blistering $96 for the season. I can buy full series from google play in HD but once again not sure if anything I have can play it. I can buy it in HD from itunes, but once again I'm not sure if I could play it. I might be able to get it to play from the ipad air or iphone 5 using an adapter cable, but maybe only in 720 line (i or p I have no idea). I might be able to play it from my windows laptop using itunes via a hdmi cable, but once again maybe not if I get some hdcp issue (eg hardware compatible but some obscure issue like rdp service enabling stopping it working). As far as google play, I've no idea. I might be able to play it from my TV directly. This is just total bullXXXX.

This is the same sort of crap as to why I stick with console gaming rather than PC gaming. I just want it to plug in and work.

I am wicked pissed about this.

I've said it before, the show had won 4 consecutive Emmys and now has 5 straight (whether you agree they deserved them all or not hardly matters) and that alone should make this particular title EXEMPT from that kind of extremely close scrutiny of sales like, say, That 70's show.

I tweeted my displeasure to 20th century fox tv and Modern Family last night after they won. I'm sure not a sole cares.

I mean, I get that The Big Bang Theory sells well, but it's also the #1 rated comedy and has been for most of its run and probably will remain so until it ends. Even if it wasn't a big seller on blu, you put the #1 comedy out on both formats. And you put the most decorated comedy on television for the past half decade on both formats. Period.

Yeah, it looks like some "executive decisions" have been made at 20th Century Fox. Bad idea I think. It's a slap in the face for people who've been buying the seasons, otherwise known as, customers.

It's even more annoying for a show like Archer in the UK where apparently they never released the first season then released seasons 2 and 3 and then stopped Same goes for the random season 4 of How I Met Your Mother and Californication here in the UK
