Default Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2014 - 9/18/14 - 9/21/14 + Sony Pre-show (9/1/14)

http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/tgs/2014/en/

The show will be for the Professionals the first two days (9/18 - 9/19) and then open to the public on the last two.

The weird thing in 2014 is that SCEJ will have their traditional press conference more than 2 weeks -ahead- of the TGS this year, on September 1st (8/31/14 at 11pm PST for US west coast).

Quote:
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia is holding a PlayStation press conference in Japan at 3:00pm on September 1 (11:00pm Pacific on August 31) ahead of Tokyo Game Show.

Prior announcements to come out of these conferences have included things like the PlayStation Vita TV and Grasshopper Manufacture's Lily Bergamo (RIP). I'm hoping to hear more about Gravity Rush 2 -- either during this pre-show or TGS proper.

Now's the time. Bring out those PS Vita games.
Too much to present? Do not want to be lost in the excitement of the TGS opening?

I think the explanation is a little bit more down to Earth actually.

Just 3 days later (September 4th), the Xbox One will launch in Japan, and Phil Spencer has already said that although Micorsoft will indeed be present at the TGS, they will not have a presser there.

So it makes sense that if Sony has anything in reserve specifically to help the PS4 on the Japanese market (where it hasn't been doing well at all so far), they would want to do so -ahead- of the launch of their biggest (international) rival.
This being said, I do not think that too many people expect the Xbox One to fare that well on the Japanese market either (for reference, it's launching with two bundles, Kinect being the main differentiator, but neither being marketed at a price under the PS4).

About the anouncements on the Sony side, it seems that they still have more games to announce.

Quote:
Sony plans to announce new titles during its PlayStation press conference at the Tokyo Game Show 2014, according to a Japanese-language Famitsu interview with Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.

“But to be honest, in selecting the games we wanted to introduce, we realized it wasn’t possible to fit everything into the frame of the conference, so unfortunately there were some games we couldn’t introduce this time,” Yoshida said, translated by Gematsu, referring to Sony’s Gamescom 2014 press conference (below).

Yoshida added that game announcements cut from the Gamescom press conference, due to the amount of content Sony had to showcase, will be shown during its TGS keynote. PlayStation 4-related game announcements will be a focus for Sony at TGS this year, but Sony is still determining whether or not to exhibit its virtual reality headset Project Morpheus at the show.

More content created by Japanese developers is needed for the console to gain ground in the Japanese marketplace, said Yoshida, adding that Sony is working with publishers to increase the PlayStation 4 user base.

Is The Last Guardian going to be even teased? Shuhei Yoshida said No (even if they always protest that the game is still indeed in development) ... But who knows?

So far, we also know that Sony (probably in a bid to entice Japanese Indie devs to come) in a very cool move has deicded to entirely sponsor the Indie corner of the TGS this year, footing the bill (around $1000 per exhibitor) for every dev booth, regardless of the platform they develop on. Last year 41 exhibitors were at TGS in this area.

[Show spoiler]We come to the stream for this

and leave it with this in mind

Hoping for FF15 and some RPG's that make it stateside. Would love a new .Hack but I don't see that happening at all but maybe I'll get my Ni No Kuni 2 announcement.

Everybody's been saying they're saving the news on The Last Guardian for TGS after it was a no-show at E3 and Gamescom... hope this is true! I'm DYING for this game already!

That's actually not a crazy idea. Now that the PS TV will be available worldwide, devs should be more excited to develop games for it. I know I'm not alone in saying that it would be easier for me to justify spending $100 on a console vs $400+ for 1 really good exclusive.

And once they have people pulled in playing their awesome game at home, then people might be more inclined to the possibility of playing it on the go

ha! maybe sony should've started with the PS TV first and then the vita

If The Last Guardian doesn't make some kind of appearance, it doesn't really matter what else is shown, I'll be left disappointed.

Even if they rebooted the game 100% back in 2011, switching from PS3 to PS4 (Ueda was planning to releae a demo for it along with the ICO& SOTC collection, and was suposed to have a release toward the end of 2011), that's 3 years ago.

I cannot believe they would have -nothing- of substance to kickstart the re-reveal at this point.
Some will say that given the still big "aura" surrounding the game and its (former) lead developper, E3 might be a more natural place for its re-reveal.

About this I would say that the PS4 is in desperate need of serious star power in Japan, and Hitokui no Ōwashi Trico - The Last Guardian (alongside FF XV and KHIII) would help with just that.

We'll see if SCEJ is serious about helping the PS4 in Japan...

I know this is the pre-show but where the hell are the JP PS4 games? Vita was interesting though but it's to late for that as nothing can really save it.

Damn, they killed Everybody's Golf. I loved the game for its anime cartoony character look and locations. Seems like all other realistic golf games now.

Vita doesn't need saved in Japan. If Sony bothered supporting it outside of Japan and lowered the memory prices it would see a big boost. But SCEA are too dumb to grasp simple logic. So yeah grim future outside of Japan.

Yeah, that's what I meant for the US. If we got even half of the games they just showed for Vita, I'd pick one up right away.

Only way I'll get a Vita is if they bring over Digimon: Cyber Sleuth.

Last half of the conference was pretty good. Disgeaa 5, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Persona 5 for PS4.

Mixed feelings on Dragon Quest Heroes. I wanted a main entry for the PS4 and all we got was a Dynasty Warriors spin-off.

It looks like the consensus is that if Dragon Qust Heroes does well (it probably will, at least in Japan), then S-E will be more than tempted to bring a mainline entry to PS4.

I thought it was rather daring (some might say desperate in regards to the Japanese market) for Sony to introduce the Morpheus with this kind of application in their presser: Summer Lessons

Graphically speaking, it looks great though

Was surprised by the absence of anything about Deep Down, or FFXV, but I guess S-E and Sony wanted to make the biggest deal to be about Dragon Quest.

Also, very big for Japan, are the new Dragon Ball and One Piece games coming to PS4, and I wish the new Gundam would come to the west (not to mention Yakuza Zero). I think the Dragon Quest limited edition Silver PS4 will do very well there.

So in the end, having in mind that it was a show destined specifically for the Japanese market, it was a good show imo (particularly with Persona 5, Everybody's Golf, Disgaea 5, Ys and the litte DQ surprise at the end, even if it's a "Musou").

That sense, anyways I'm sure I'll be picking up DQH if it makes it stateside.

Only in Japan can something like that help and sell a product. This demo would have been a laughing stock if it was shown in the US but I'm sure in JP it helped garnered a lot of sales.

Was hoping to see something about Deep Down or FF15 at the event. DD just had the news about the early 2015 beta which is cool. FF15 I'm still hoping for a late 2015 date. Seems we may also get MGS5 date at the actual show.

Really want Gundam to make it out west, A Gundam PS4 game is going to be awesome. One Piece, I'm sure will come over but not sure if I'll pick it up.
