Default Rate the 5 films of John Wayne/Howard Hawks

All 5 of their collaborations are out on bluray, but this is not a poll of the film's transfer onto high-def...but rather how you would rate the movies in order of most enjoyable to least enjoyable. Here are mine, with minor comments on each film:

1) Red River --> Probably one of the finest westerns of the 20th century
2) El Dorado --> A great mix of action and comedy, with a wonderful supporting cast
3) Rio Bravo --> Excellent character studies of the main players, however would have been a better film at 2/3 it's running time. Hawks lets certain scenes linger on for too long, almost to the point of boredom
4) Rio Lobo --> Starts off with a terrific scene of a train of northern troopers getting attacked by bees thrown on by the southern troops. Kinda runs downhill after the civil war scenes are over, but still enjoyable
5) Hatari! --> Wonderful scenes of capturing animals in Africa for zoos around the world, but the plot is non-existent. I mean really...for a 2 and 1/2 hour film, it is amazing how little plot is happening

I've only seen Red River and Rio Bravo, but Red River is my favorite by a long shot.

Red River would take first place, but it sure is a shame that it ends as weakly as it does. Fantastic film until the last scene.

Rio Bravo after that, but you're right - it's too long.

The first one great, the others run of the mill fare...Wayne was a lousy actor with no range. Pretty much just played John Wayne in every film. Kinda like me...

1. Rio Bravo- perfect cast with amazing chemistry, the trick shots, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson singing together, Angie Dickinson, etc., etc. This movie is perfect in every way

2. Hatari- just have a soft spot for this movie. I have loved it since I was a kid. Needs a new transfer dammit !!

3. El Dorado- great cast, James Caan in a star making role, Robert Mitchum was great too....

4. Red River- love this movie, some of Wayne's best acting (yes he could act, better than the so called stars of today who will be forgotten in 5 years). Just not a fan of Montgomery Clift, great actor, just not a fan.

5. Rio Lobo- they should have stopped at El Dorado....
