Guess I was lucky enough to evade all spoilers for movies back in my childhood. I didn't even know the ending to The Exorcist until I watched it for the first time at age 13! Scarface too.

As history knows, arrival of the White Man changed everything as far as the future of the entire Native American race forever and their internal rivalries, violent as they were, were reduced to petty squabbles by comparison. For me, the title Apocalypto took on an entirely different meaning at the end.
