Default HDMI 1.3 VS HDMI Cables

So I decided to buy new HDMI 1.3 cables from my PS3 and new Samsung 7 Series LCD. My old HDMI cables were 4 to 5 years old so I thought it was time for an upgrade to the 1.3. Was this really necessary or just a wait of my $$$?

well, being a couple of years old...your cable could possibly be a category 1 cable.

in this case, it would probably be best just to buy new cables (category 2).

The only place I've seen where buying a quality HDMI cable makes a difference is pushing 1080P over very long distances(ie anything over 40 or 50 feet). Some of the cheaper cables can't handle that. But for anything shorter there really shouldn't be a difference if everything is working correctly.
