United Kingdom Young & Innocent (Hitchcock) Jan 19th 2015

This classic is coming out on blu in january, sounds like its getting a good transfer, can replace my dvd

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Young-Innocent-DVD-Nova-Pilbeam/dp/B00MPOMWLO/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1410572279&sr=1-2&keywords=young+and+innocent
amazon have mistakenly put dvd next to this listing but in the description it says... " This iconic early feature from the master of suspense is presented here in a High Definition transfer from original film elements, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio"

This one is pretty good, as are all of the Hitchcock discs.

There's a review, with some large screen grabs, here: http://dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=3552

Just watched this.

PQ is OK.

The first 11 min are quite damaged, with lots of vertical scratches covering the whole frame. It gets much better after this point damage-wise, though it remains fluctuant.

Frame stability is not very good. Same goes for luminosity flickering. It is acceptable, but certainly not "premium".

Under these limitations, there are many very detailed shots. It has been recently restored and it shows. It has a nice HD feel to it.
However, details also fluctuate because of the elements and because of some not-perfect focus.

AQ is fine. The LPCM track is mixed slightly too low. It is quite clean, but from time to time, damages can be heard, rendering dialogs a bit harsh. Otherwise, it is quite good but expectedly flat.

As for the movie, I found it less thrilling than expected. After all, it is a couple running after a raincoat for 80% of the movie...

Watching this now and the picture stability issue seems even worse with a couple of beers

I enjoyed it, theres real suspense in a couple of moments. I mean obviously its not a great hitch, but its better than many more well known

I really liked the female lead

It's a decent enough film, and the PQ is watchable. For the similar aged "Sabotage" I think the PQ is much better and the film itself is a gem. I like it much more than some of his famous Hollywood films. It is based on Joseph Conrad's story "Secret Agent".
