Amazing! Back in Spring, I requested [Safe] (as well as Cutter's Way) on Twilight Time's FB page and was told by some random guy that Criterion had it. I'm absolutely thrilled to see that he was right! One of my favorite films, and one I can knock off of the wish list in my signature.

I've heard this film mentioned so many times, both in print and in conversation, it will be great to finally own and watch it in the best possible format.

Incredible film. One of the best of the entire decade. Does the short film relate thematically in some way?

Finally! My favourite film of the 90s on Blu. Incredibly haunting and impossible to shake.

This was on my watchlist. What better way to watch it for the first time than a Criterion release?

Come on and lower the price Amazon. When B&N is cheaper, there's a problem.

Watched this one today and to be honest a lot of things troubled me in the film and I don't know if it was intentional or my feelings towards some of the characters. I Passed on watching this one when it was first released on DVD, but I have to say I will have to think this one over.

It's supposed to be a troubling film.

That much I knew. Sorry I should have explained more. Sometimes I felt like some instances may have just been more undefined. I got the impression of
[Show spoiler]Wrenwood being really troubling. The guy who claims to have aids living in that mansion up on the hill. I didn't know if Haynes was trying to convey Wrenwood in the negative or not.
At least for myself it felt wrong. A lot of stuff going on in the film. Maybe I will listen to the commentary track tonite.

[Show spoiler]Haynes is critical of Wrenwood and its "guru", who peddles worrying new age nonsense which puts the blame for an illness on the patient and that it all can be overcome with positive thinking. There was a lot of this around in the early years of AIDS. When there was little hope there were people out there who gave false hope and who told people they could overcome their ailments with positive thinking, only increasing the stress on many people who were rightly depressed by their health.

I'm not sure why that felt wrong to you, it was part of the point of the film. That said, Haynes keeps a lot of stuff ambiguous, not being obviously judgemental of anything or anybody. It's via an accumulation of details which seem "off" how he coveys where he stands.

True, and I'm one of those film watchers that doesn't mind when things aren't explained I even love it when movies end without a resolution. Some things felt off. Just some motivatons through the story and characters are vague at times, not in the sense he meant them to be, but sometimes lack clarity. You can be ambiguous but usually you know when it is meant to be that way. I just felt so bad for Moore's character
[Show spoiler]even more so at the end of the film because you really don't know where she is going to end up. Will she have to spend the rest of her life at this place that just seem depressing not that her life back in CA was all that great at all! Friends that are distant a husband that seems like he is ready to drop her in no time.

Not sure if others agree, obviously the film is highly acclaimed and I love Haynes other work and I'm glad the first time seeing this film was in HD on this BLU for sure.
