How are the SDH subtitles on Pirates 1,2?

I was very dissappointed that there are no normal english subtitles on Pirates 1 & 2, as I really need those to understand spoken english in movies completely and the idea of having too much text on the screen describing every sound is not very pleasant. My question is how much text is in those SDH subtitles? Is there really every sound transcribed or just a musical note before the text line when somebody is singing etc.? I have only seen SDH subtitles on a DVD a while ago and I can't really remember how it was done.
Please understand that I'm not against SDH subtitles, I'm only dissappointed that the only version that is aviable with english 5.1 PCM does not have normal english subtitles and the german version (which will probably have them) will have only German PCM, english only in DD. (so I have heard). If the SDH subtitles are not that different from normal subtitles, I might order the US version.

SDH = Subtitled for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

So it will include all sound descriptions.

Those bug me and this is why...

I have friends that like to read subtitles...
and the subtitles will have something like

[girl singing]

What is she singing.. nobody knows....

or worse

[rapping]

okay thats nice that something is rapping...
but what are they saying...

nobody knows...

Does particle Man know?

How are they doing the deaf any good if
they only give broad descriptions of things?

Ive seen this on Japanese Anime and being
dubbed in Japanese you feel lost when it says

children that they do not want to wake up.

So keeping the volume low is essential.

It is not same as Closed Caption. My friend. Be patience and live with it. Things will always improve as years goes by. Just like Closed Caption did over years. Long time ago, there were just singing or nothing, fastward to today, we have it on closed caption which you can read it what they are saying in the song and more. Things are improving, so SDH is on other side of Closed Caption.

Do I, I am deaf, care? All I care is just watch and read subtitle no matter what. Period. Accept it. Things can get better as years go by.

Not all dialogues are meant to be subtitled, even on the home video version. For the theatrical version each dialogue uttered on the screen has to be on paper so that the appropriate rating can be applied. Still doesn't make them necessary to be subtitled.

While SDH can be annoying and an inclusion of just subtitles would be good, this is a minor quibble. At least to me it's minor.

why not just add a PIP option of someone doing sign language then? That wont make much of a difference... sometimes we ask for too much when we should be happy with what we get.

Hell no. Subtitle is better option. If you try do that, it create more distraction and there is no words, all is in sign langauge, we wont know which word but we know what it mean. It is best to leave it alone as subtitle or SDH as CC for tv.

I don't want an ASL translation of a movie. That would mean I'll have to keep my eyes on the signing instead of the movie. I'm able to watch the movie and read at once, but to watch someone signing? That'll be more difficult to do so. Even though I'm fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) but I prefer to understand a movie in its original language which is English in most cases.

Sure, I enjoy watching foreign movies as they are subtitled. I don't understand Spanish, Japanese or any of these other languages. But I do read and write English, so I want to read it in English, not ASL.

Though dk3dknight is right, I do believe the words spoken even in a different language should included in the subtitles. I'll like to know what they are saying even if I don't understand it.

I don't like it when I see something like (Speaking French). C'mon, just type it down so I can check the English-French dictionary for myself.

for the standard English subtitles, yes. However, for SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing), it should be included because people can't hear the spoken words. The hearing people can hear it so why can't we read it too? The only reason why it may not make the final cut is because the captioner didn't understand it so it's skipped. I'm not asking for a translation, just what's said should be added to the subtitles in the language it's spoken in.

That's how important it is to make movies fully accessible to the deaf as possible when it come to SDH. I don't mind standard English subtitles within the special features, but for movies, I like to get as much as possible.

What anime is that? Generally anime DVDs don't have SDH subtitles. There's only a few notable exceptions that I know of.

Incidentally adding more subtitle tracks usually costs extra due to more work timing, authoring and proofing. Thus companies will usually go for the most popular options.

Ghost in the Shell 2 in that particular situation...

It bugged me they took that route thats all.

This was on the dvd version, I dont mine subs to be honest
but they have to be done right, and im sorry if some of the
other users did not appreciate my anger over this.

But looking at the subject this whole set went off the title did it not.. lol
