Default The Virgin Suicides (1999) - Why Only in France?

I watched The Virgin Suicides a few months ago and absolutely loved it, it's a very good film and I wonder why the blu-ray has only been released in France, in a individual edition and with a Sofia Coppola films box. It's so unfair 'cause it's a great film and it sure deserves a release around the world or in U.S and UK at least (and with Brazilian Portuguese subtitles please!)

Let's not forget Marie Antoinette as well. Coppola is my favorite present day director and I hate watching Suicides and Marie on DVD.

I didn't watched Marie yet, it looks good.
The only Sofia films I watched are Virgin Suicides and Bling Ring. Both are very good.

Yeah, Sofia's definitely up there for me as well. I'm constantly waiting for some news on Marie Antoinette coming to Blu-Ray, and I am constantly disappointed.

There's any way to contact Paramount and ask they to release this one in blu-ray at least in the US and UK?
It should be released in other countries.

Recently re-watched SC's The Virgin Suicides - amazing film - I liked the story, '70's setting, and of course the rock soundtrack - especially enjoyed the Heart songs, Magic Man & Crazy on You - these really fit the scenes these were placed over, and I'm a huge fan of Heart's '70's & early '80's catalog. Also enjoyed Come Sail Away by Styx (played at the dance).

Instead of being just a tragedy, I also felt the film was about how some adolescent boys (and I include myself when I was that age) may tend to idealize women by putting them up on a pedestal, without actually knowing much about them. Since all of these young women passed on at such a youthful age, the whole point of the film was that these boys remembered them as they were at the time of their death, i.e. somewhat innocent (with the exception of Lux)....

In any case, agree with the OP that it's too bad that TVS is not on Region 1 Blu yet - I wouldn't mind seeing a R1 Blu boxed set of all five of her films...

Actually, my friend, the french blu-ray is region free.
I didn't buy it 'cause i'm not fluent in english and I need the brazilian portuguese subtitles. For now, I'll try to buy the dvd, which it out of print here in Brazil.

Good to know - however, I have no interest in buying Region free Blu's, just Region 1 Blu's. Region free Blu's are typically more expensive than Region 1 (for me in the U.S., at least). Plus, it's a lot tougher for me to get ahold of them for me since I would have to order them from overseas - which adds another layer of expense.

So, unless I can find this in a U.S. store for a reasonable price (probably impossible), I'm not getting the Region-free French Blu..

Which is why I'm hoping for a Region 1 Blu release of TVS....
