Default I need some help.

Im going to be ordering a Sammy LN46A650 soon, and I would like just a basic, beginner sound system. I dont really need a full out HT, but I would like to get better sound quality. I dont want to spend a fortune either.

But I may also be moving into a much larger room within a few months.(my room is very small.) And when that happens I will want to get a good setup. All help is deeply appreciated.

How much money do you have to spend??????????.... you can spend $300 for something that mostly make noise ..... you can go $2000+ that will make sound & music.

Receivers start at about $300 & go up to about $6k - $1k-$2k you can get a real nice receiver that will last you 5+ years.

Speakers range from $10-$1.5millon (yes there is a speaker out there that is $1,500,000US) - normal for good/very good speaker $200-600+ each

How long do you plan on keeping the set-up??? if over 2-3years year then you will need at lease $2000+ Think of it as an invesment, it may cost you "A Lot' now but good speakers will last you 10-15 years, better then replacing crapy speakers in a year or 2.

You do you want 5.1 or 7.1 set-up??

stole the links from driver_king's sig....

Onkyo 606 Receiver, 90W/Channel, 1080i Upscaling, HDMI Upconversion (all your cables go in, only a single HDMI goes to the TV)

$387.75

Polk Audio 5.1 Speaker Package (not a HTIB)

$226.08

Total Package Price: $613.83

You could even add on the Polk Monitor 50 Towers and make it a 7.1 system

about $160

Total Package price: $773.83

Or do 5 towers and the receiver... plus this sub

total package price: $930.76

All great packages for under $1000

by the way, props again to driver king for links in sig

Even beginners have budgets. So give the maximum figure.

I think all of that is good advice. All that hard work getting those links. Oh..What? Those are my links from my sig. He should be set with all that. Maybe a subwoofer upgrade if he decides to go with all towers too.

If you are moving to a larger room in a couple of months, I would suggest that you don't spend a dime until then. The wait sucks, but it would suck even more to get something that doesn't mesh with the new room you are moving too.

True. My room right now is a little bit bigger than a walmart bathroom. The room I'll be getting is at least 2x bigger than mine.

well assuming the PS3 is the only source and you dont have HDMI yet for it... you would need 2 HDMI cables (one from PS3 to receiver, one from Receiver to TV), a subwoofer cable and speaker wire

all can be purchased at monoprice.com

All right. Thanks. (and yes I do know that $1 HDMI's work as well as a $90 one.)

yep... for shorter runs anyways.... the monster cables apparently hold signal better for long runs (25 ft and more)
