Default I Am Legend Reboot

Quote:
Warner Bros. Developing I AM LEGEND Reboot from Spec Script Described as “Sci-Fi Version of THE SEARCHERS”

Warner Bros. has long been keen to make another I Am Legend movie, but it proved a tough nut to crack and Will Smith is reluctant to return to the franchise. The studio may have found a way around all that. Deadline reports that WB will retrofit the spec script A Garden at the End of the World, written by Gary Graham, into an I Am Legend reboot. Graham worked at the Apple store when he submitted his script, described as a “sci-fi version of The Searchers,” to the Black List website. Warner Bros. took notice and saw enough similarities that they recruited Graham to rewrite A Garden at the End of the World to fit the I Am Legend universe.

It is not specified how Graham’s new script will link to I Am Legend or when in relation to the apocalypse the new film is set, but there are no plans to bring Smith back. Original I Am Legend producers Akiva Goldsman, James Lassiter, and Joby Harold will return to produce the I Am Legend reboot alongside Roy Lee (Oldboy) and Brooklyn Weaver (Out of the Furnace). Revisit the original I Am Legend trailer after the jump.

I guess I'll have to wait until we get more news and actors, but I'm not liking the reboot news at this moment.

Considering I Am Legend is basically an updated Omega Man, I don't see another reboot as a problem. I Am Legend didn't really work for me anyways. Maybe a new perspective will do some good.

Yeah, I have no problem with either a straight remake (I love the book, it's a great story) or some sort of spinoff story in the same reality.

Trying to do both though seems a bit...ambitious and this sounds like they're just trying to shoehorn some other similar story into the 'franchise'.

But who knows.

I think that Vincent Price's Last Man on Earth is still the best adaption. And that wasn't especially great, just decent.

It was a little rough but I think it was quite a bit better than decent and yeah, it was the best of the adaptations.

But there was definitely room for improvement.

An adaptation which sticks closer to the book (such as keeping the actual ending for once) would be ideal.

I would have liked a prequel with Smith but I imagine Will would want his kids in the movie somehow so whatever

I'm completely fine with a new film version of the book

Sounds like it should be titled something else and not considered part of I Am Legend.

I Am Legend was a good film. There is no need for a reboot.

If they make a reboot, MAKE THE F#CKING STORY FROM THE SHORT STORY!!! It has the potential, in my opinion, to be almost a Shawshank Redemption within its genre if they would just stick to its source material. Sheesh!

Hell yes! The book and its ending are so poingant!!! I was thoroughly disgusted by how they ended the film. It really felt superficial and lazy.

Have you read the actual short story? It has many important messages and deep meaning. The film adaptation was flat and superficial beyond all belief.

I have no desire to read the short story. I found I Am Legend to be a very good film, and I see no reason to reboot it.

The movie wasn't exactly a worthwhile telling of the short story though.

I'm fine with the idea of a fourth adaption but I think making a new film to be a spin-off to the rather dubious Will Smith version is a bad idea. Seems like a waste of time and money.

Really unsure how successful it would have been, but it sure would have been interesting to see the Ridley Scott version starring Schwarzenegger:
