I doubt this will happen. A lot of people would not accept this and I believe Sony already knows this (IMO that is why The Agency is suppose to be based on micro-transactions).

It was announced in 2005 when SOE bought the rights from Warner Brothers and also got the rights for the matrix online |

Sony has expressed a lot of interest in micro transactions. I don't think we will see subscriptions on the PS3 with Sony games. When NCsoft starts putting out games it may be a different story.

I only recently stopped playing WoW and when I figured how many hours I put in each month, the $15 provided me far more hours of entertainment that going to a movie or buying 1 console game every 4 months. (And I was a more casual player that wasn't into heavy grinding or raiding.) I know the monthly fees seem odd to console players who haven't done an MMO before and those who like FPS that have free matches, but think about it - a $15 a month MMO is the equivelent of purchasing 1 game every 4 months. If the game continues to engage you 10-40+ hours every month with the initial and added content, then isn't worth that monthly fee? The key question though is if they will have enough content (both initial and added) to keep people interested. If they really put effort into it and add content like Blizzard does, the fee will be well worth it - again assuming it engages you and you don't get bored of it. |
