United Kingdom A Little Rant

I know if this belongs anywhere, it's in the General Topics forum but the member I'm ranting about is British and I think he posts here a bit.

Just a short rant about helping a guy out back in July during the Criterion sale. I ordered 12 movies for him, I believe I used an extra 20% coupon for each one of them. I had to place 12 separate orders to do this but that was easy enough. I packed them up and then shipped them to Ireland because it's a bit cheaper shipping to Ireland than the UK. I think even with him having to pay the extra shipping from Ireland, it would still be cheaper. I filled out the customs form the way he requested in hopes of giving him the best chance to duck customs. I sent them off a couple months ago, and he has since received them and he never even contacted me to thank me again or at least tell me that they showed up. I PM'ed him once in the last week or so as well as left a message on his profile and he hasn't gotten back to me.

Was I wrong in thinking he would let me know when they showed up?

Thumbs down

I have sold stuff on ebay for over 12 years (not huge amounts of listings) and have noticed a HUGE drop off in people who actually leave feedback after they have received their item.

It's a sign of the times: people don't care once they get what they want.

Of course not ! That member needs to show some common decency after you've gone out of your way to help them. Well, at least you know what to say if he/she ever asks you again.

Name & shame, lol.

He has definitely been online since also.

I am the guy who helped him ship them from Ireland over to him in the UK.

If its any consolation, he ignored my Facebook messages asking him to do me a small favour (shipping something to me in Ireland as the delivery destination was UK-only) - after I had just done the same thing for him!

Maybe he just doesn't like to respond, or is 'busy', but its a bit rude of him to not at least thank you if you ask me.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, if I've offended anyone I certainly wasn't my intention.
The reason is I've had to have my computer fixed therefore I've been using my mums iPad mini, I tried to send you a message with a link to my unboxing video
But try as I might, I couldn't get it to work.
I will try again but I doubt it will work but for the time being I'll say, yes I did receive the criterions and it was the best package I have ever received, I mention this numerous times in the video. I still can't get over how good the Seven Samurai set is, in fact it's the best piece in my collection, so thank you so much.
Regarding Sam I honestly don't remember getting your message, my brother uses the iPad as we'll so maybe he saw it and didn't tell me about it.
Message me again and we can definitely sort something out.
Again, I didn't mean to offend anyone and I'm sorry. Plus I've been deathly ill since Monday so that hasn't exactly done wonders for me.

Hello melonhead, as you can see I never mentioned your name in my post

Well I hope you are able to get your computer fixed soon. I don't have an iPad myself but I realize nothing is quite like having a computer for ease in surfing the net. I'd like to check out the video on youtube so please send me the link when you get your computer fixed.

Glad everything showed up in great shape and hopefully you didn't have to pay customs in the UK

The eBay feedback system became worthless when they limited what you could do (both buyers and sellers). I used to always leave feedback (as both buyer and seller), but now there is little point. I don't think sellers can leave bad feedback, which is ridiculous.

Cool, I look forward to checking it out and hearing your accent

That's awesome about no customs! As I said, I think it sucks when you guys order stuff from abroad and have to pay extra customs on top of everything else you already paid for.

Tell me about it. Or rather don't, it'll just annoy me.

I find it really tedious when you encounter a bad buyer on ebay. I had a guy from Brazil buy something from me earlier in the year, then filed a complaint less than 24 hours later that the item hadn't arrived yet and was looking for a refund... so I get in touch with eBay and PayPal and I was more or less the 'bad guy' in that scenario, they wouldn't help me. I think they need to up their game when it comes to seller support on there.

Yeah. I stopped selling on there long ago when they removed all protections for sellers. My first two items on the "new and improved" system had deadbeat buyers that just bought the thing and wouldn't pay or respond to any emails, and I had to wait several days before I was allowed to re-list and no punitive action of any sort could be taken against them for wasting days of time in which I could have relisted the items. Dumb. It's even worse now. "The buyer's always right!!!" shouldn't be their policy when the sellers are their customers too. It's completely not worth it to try and sell on there anymore, imo. Amazon takes a huge cut and isn't very seller-friendly either, but I've started using it just cause at least I am far less likely to get ripped off by scammers claiming I never sent the item, etc.

The wheels fell of eBay UK when they started dictating how much people could charge for postage and packaging. The packaging UK sellers use is nearly always rubbish and delivery times are glacial. I don't sell on eBay anymore because it's not worth it. I send my clutter to charity shops.

Re. the man who couldn't be arsed to say thank you, it's just bad manners.

Totally agree re: ebay. The feedback system changes dreadful, can't give bad feedback to people who bid on the item seconds before it ends, then never pay.

The guy did say thanks and sorry though, on more than 1 occasion, read through the thread.
