Default Can someone hack into your PC through router if they know your IP address.

My sister is so convinced that her PC has been hacked. She likes to post stuff on the forums. I'm not sure if that forum display the IP address or not.
I told her it would be hard to if you have a router and Vista comes with firewall built in.
Can someone really do that? Just curious.

hypothetically yes

Likely?

No

More likely she's caught some spyware of some type. What are the symptoms

Well, she created multiple users on her PC and she said some guy has posted all the user name on the forum. I didn't really look into it if it was a coincedent or not.
I know she caught some spyware. she told me that the guy changes her home page from google to Yahoo. I told her that sometime when you install something that you downloaded it usually comes with that and if you click yes and agree without reading it you will install that software along with it.

There are programs (seen one used) where it's a [you] command... so whoever is looking at the page, thinks it's talking about them, i.e.

Don't trust [you] I heard [you] is very untrustworthy, [you] lives at [address] etc etc etc.

and [address] command pulls the info submitted by the person when signing up..... the person thinks everyone can see it, but really everyone who sees the page can only see their own info (but then they play along, and say.... "oh yeah... he/she did this to me" etc etc)

Creating aditional profiles on her computer won't do anything for her IP.

What kind of internet connection does she have?
Does she have a firewall, either software or hardware?
How is her computer connected to the internet?

She has cable with Netgear router and firewall software is the one that comes with Vista but she also has XP machine.
