I see from another thread (here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=250041) that folks with Oppo BDP-83 are having playback issues with X-men: Days of Future Past.
I seem to be experiencing a similar issue eith my LG BD611 where I get a 'check disk' error and then the BD player spits out the disk. I've updated the firmware and tried 2 separate copies with the same result but no dice. Transformers: Age of Extinction (Paramount) plays just fine and so do all my older discs...so apparently it is related to X-Men ![]() Plan to contact LG and Fox...not sure what will come of it ![]() |

My Vizio VRB133 will not play X-Men DOFP. Vizio says the new anti-piracy format of this movie is not compatible with old BD players. Vizio also states they cannot update the software because a hardware change is required to play this movie.
Vizio is out of the BD player business and will not offer any remedy. Is a new BD player the only option. Just like to know the facts. Is this an excuse from Vizio or do all old players have this problem? I think my VRB133 is only 4-5 years old. Thanks. |

So far...this is the only studio using it. "We" told you this was going to happen when the Analog Sunset occured. New DRM was coming. For those that pay attention, this was old news...in 2013. (my oldest BD player, in use, is now less than a year old. I have 8. Every one of them cost between $145-$190. I recently went Multi-Region and used that as an excuse to replace all my older BD players...and take care of this new DRM) Last edited by schan1269; 10-21-2014 at 02:54 PM. |

A firmware up date on a Sony is a must. It may fix the issue. Also make sure the BD live internet connection is set to "do not allow". This helped a few years back when Machete wouldn't play. Another fox title by the way. Also, if your player is 5 years old, it's time for a new one. New features and overhauled menus along with faster loading are worth it. They can be bought for under $100. And don't go cheap, like the vizio. Go with Sony, Samsung or Panasonic.

I may be in the wrong forum to ask basic questions as I am only a consumer of popular BDs. DRM seems like a standard that may or may not receive wide use from various studios and this is what I am concerned about. What standards or specifications should I look for in a new BD player? I would hate to buy one and then find some other studio that has their own take on what copyright protection should look like and have to buy another new BD player for them. Thanks |

Also had problems with this Blu-Ray. I took it back thinking that I got a bad copy. The new copy also wouldn't play. After reading these posts and going to the Sony Site. I upgraded my FirmWare and all is good in my house again. Plays with no problems. Just remember...After you upgrade, make sure to go back and try to upgrade again. This way you will know for sure that their isn't any other upgrades available and that the upgrade took.

Is there any possible way to upgrade the firmware in the Vizio VRB133? I know they stopped making upgrades, but would another brand be able to upgrade or are those of use with the Vizio VRB133 out of luck?

Yeah, I had this issue with X-Men: Days Of Future Past and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes when I bought them this past week.
Did some Googling and it seems its some kind of Fox anti-piracy protection thing and you need to update your firmware to play them. Before I did that a "Cannot play disc" error message would show up. I dunno what other titles are affected but its funny cos my War Of The Apes disc played fine before I updated the firmware. Maybe its just ones released in 2015. I have a SONY BDP-370, a player from 2010. |
