I just watched Big Deal on Madonna Street last night and it was a lot of fun. I'm always delighted to see Death by Hanging on this list, it deserves twice the attention that Oshima's late films receive.

I've only seen The Seven Samurai. Feel a little embarrassed right now.

15 out of 39.
Hmm.
I guess I should just put away my moods, and get to it.

What's amazing to me is how someone from Scorsese's generation had much less access to those types of films than someone from my generation.

Now days any film from that list is the click of a mouse away from watching--24/7. Back in Scorsese's time it was much more difficult to catch a screening of Breathless.

I often wonder what kind of impact that accessibility has had on contemporary filmmakers--both positive and negative.

He grew up in New York, he had access to movies from everywhere that were being shown in the cinemas.

Most people don't see these movies on anything bigger than 55 inches, they also don't even use speakers larger than what 4 inches to listen to some of these. Pssh. Sub woofer well forget that!

Waste.

Because this is the birth of film globally as a starters list.

Just get smashed on some liqueur and your favorite soft drink mix, fall back in your couch, jack the stereo to pleasantly loud levels, and just watch this stuff. That's what I do. Also if you're not from the USA then check out Night of the Living Dead 1968 and 2001 A Space Odyessy 1968 same way. Universal Horror Films 1930's set too. I mean yeah you don't have to, but why the f not?

Just the two for me: A bout de souffle and Seven Samurai. Do I feel ashamed? **** no, because I like what I like and it's not as if I don't have any foreign-language films. Why, I've got about 100 kung fu DVDs alone.

I've seen 38 of 39... looks like I should bump the remaining title, DEATH BY HANGING, up on my to-view list!
