Default 3+ hour movies that are actually good

The director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven, which I think is a very good movie, clocks in at something like 3 hours and 13 minutes, although I think that includes the overture music and a brief intermission. What other long movies (at least three hours) from whatever era do you like? And, if you can, please look up the running time of the film.

Godfather is less than 3 hours. Godfather II - an excellent film - is 3 hours, 22 minutes.

Giant and Dances with Wolves come to mind both excellent films. My favorite movie of all time Braveheart know its 3 minutes short of three hours but still such a great film.

Yeah Godfather is also a few minutes short of 3 hours so maybe I'm being too strict in my criteria, I dunno.

Another incredibly long film that's unlike any other and definitely worth seeing is Love Exposure (Japanese language). That's a few minutes short of 4 hours.

I thought Ben-Hur with Charlton Heston was pretty epic.

I'm definitely echoing the great sentiments about "Lord of the Rings"; I've lost count of how many times I've seen the extended cuts. That's one reason why I was so disappointed that "An Unexpected Journey" only got 12 minutes for its longer cut.

As for other films, I haven't seen many over 3 hours in length, but "The Sound of Music" comes pretty close at six minutes under the mark. Its still a classic almost 50 years later, with many memorable songs and moments.

Ben Hur is a wonderful film, well over 3 hours at 212 minutes. Also Gone With The Wind at 238 minutes.

Apocalypse Now Redux (3 hrs. 22 min.)

Andrei Rublev (3 hrs. 25 min.)

Gone With the Wind (3 hrs. 58 min.)

Lawrence of Arabia (3 hrs. 36 min.)

Those are off the top of my head. I know I'm forgetting some really good ones.

Pretty much all those that have been mentioned. I'll throw Barry Lyndon in there as well.

The Redux version of Apocalypse Now, though I find it inferior to the theatrical cut myself.

Lawrence of Arabia is an obvious example, and what a fantastic film.

Das Boot, another great film, is 3 hours and 29 minutes in its director's cut form, the TV mini-series obviously even longer.

Sátántangó, arguably Béla Tarr's masterpiece (though personally I consider Werckmeister Harmonies his absolutely best work) is a massive 7 hours and 30 minutes.
