I have almost everything I want, so why am I not happy? - Blu-ray Forum

Actually, I can answer my own question. I figure this might make others think.

While there are "aspects of life" I would like, material wise, I'm doing ok.

I wanted a new computer a few years ago and got it. Still a great machine.
I wanted an HD video camera and got it a few years ago.
I wanted DVD's and have plenty I want to now get rid of.
I wanted blu-ray and got it last year. I wanted blu-ray movies and get them as they are released.
I wanted an HDTV for my room, so now I have TWO. One is the TV the other is primarily my pc monitor. So yeah, the desire of having two monitors is filled, but when do I actually use it?

I have had a Garmin GPS for 8 years but now I want a NEW one.

There is simply no pleasing the flesh.

You need to get rid of the almost part. Of course if your like me when you get that last elusive "want" another one comes along to take it's place.

agree with the girlfriend bit... if you get one of those they will use up most of your money so you will not be able to want stuff as you won't be able to afford it

I'm the complete opposite, I've got next to nothing I want, but I am still happy. I want a newer computer that runs fast, I want a less stressful job, I want a house to call my own.. etc etc. At the end of the day though, I always go to sleep with a smile on my face.

Material posessions and other people shouldn't make you happy, it's something inside of you that makes you happy not external influences. If you are in a race to get new things to make you happy, then you won't ever be happy, because there's always something bigger and better coming out you will want.

If you rely on somebody else to make you happy (everybody saying get a girlfriend), then what happens when you break up, you go back to being unhappy. It's better to be happy with yourself, and when you find somebody they can enhance that existing happiness.
