So I would say don't pay attention to the quote & focus on the post itself

I work on a system where each post has a unique code linked to the user, and that unique code is embedded when quoting. With tags it could be used to shield a blocked user's quote or the entire reply. An example use is when information has various levels of classification. I'm not saying whether such a feature is worth your while to add, just that it's possible in data-driven Content Managed systems.
