I'd guess between $5k-$7k.
Suspecting that this is the last physical media format on which a wide selection of titles will be released, I'm shifting from having had a very tightly curated DVD collection to BD-hoarder mode. |

$15,000 and $20,000 if you're talking strictly movies, steelbook editions, box sets, special editions, foreign, etc...
But if you're talking about (and thereby including the costs of), movie memorabilia, screenplays, books, original custom framed film posters, statues, busts, a dedicated media room (curios, bookcases, etc...) and a dedicated home theater (seating, and audio-visual set up), then the total would be considerably more. And yes ...film is my passion and I am quite insane. ![]() |

That's been my m.o. as well. Since 2007 I've assumed that this would be the last physical format and this has affected how/what I buy as a result. With that said I'm a bargain hunter, so while my average movie price in 2007 was probably around $16 per film, I'd guess that now it's probably closer to $10 and that includes all the recent limited editions from Twilight Time and others that would drive the cost up. All in all I'm assuming I've spent between $5000 & $7000.

i'd rather not think about it, but since you asked... if i applied a modest average of even $15 per movie, the total amount would be around $10,000... but i've been able to upgrade many of my DVDs which i originally paid $20 for for about $5 on BD, go figure...

I've probably averaged about $15 per title in my Blu-ray collection, since I've purchased a great many movies for less than $10 apiece due to sales or to their inclusion in box sets, but I've also bought some expensive Criterion titles and Twilight Time titles.
There are 794 titles in my Blu-ray collection right now, so I'll multiply that times the above $15 average price, and it comes out to almost $12,000. I funded a lot of my early Blu-ray purchases by selling off about 600 DVDs and trading in DVDs during the days of the Best Buy Upgrade and Save deals, though, so it does not feel as though I actually spent the above money. Of course, I bought those DVDs in the first place, so that's something else to think about altogether. |
