Default Dragon Quest Heroes

Dragon Quest Heroes was revealed by Square enix at the Sony conference right before TGS 2014 started, as a PS4/ PS3 exclusive title (as far as we know).

A trailer was then shown and it appears to be a blend of a Dragon Quest game with a Musou game (like Dynasty Warriors), so not technically a "real" DQ game, but it definitely gave hope to see the mainline Dragon Quest games returning to the Playstation ecosystem.

An exclusive PS4 bundle was also shown, in Silver Satin, with a special (removable) USB cache character.

It was tentatively announced at the time for 2015, so everyone thought ""maybe" fall 2015 if all goes well.

Nope.

It's Q1 2015 already confirmed, with the specific date of Febdruary 26th 2014 in Japan.

http://www.siliconera.com/2014/10/28...uary-26-japan/

Quote:
During a NicoNico news stream, Square Enix announced Dragon Quest Heroes will be released in Japan on February 26, 2015. Dragon Quest Heroes, a Warriors style spinoff from Omega Force, brings together a bunch of characters from the RPG series including heroes from Dragon Quest IV.

First print copies include hero costumes from Dragon Quest III as a bonus. Dragon Quest Heroes is in development for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The PS4 version will run at 60fps while the PS3 version is locked at 30fps.

Square Enix also hired voice actors like Hiroshi Kamiya who plays Levi on Attack on Titan to voice Terry in Dragon Quest Heroes.

Here’s who is in the game:

Dirk – Banjo Ginga (Astaroth in Soulcalibur)

Giulietta – Mikako Komatsu (Rose in Tales of Zestiria)

Homiron – Rie Kugimiya (Rise in Persona 4)

Alena from DQIV – pop star Shoko Nakagawa

Kiryl from DQIV- Hikaru Midorikawa (Akihiko in Persona 4)

Maya from DQIV – Miyuki Sawashiro (Catherine in Catherine)

Terry from DQVI – Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi from Attack on Titan)
Now, this gives hope to see the game not too far in 2015 for NA and Europe, but on the other hand we do not even have a confirmation that the game is even supposed to be coming to the west either...

Sony really loading up for February all over the world...

I wouldn't mind a Western release of this. I played Hyrule Warriors at my friend's house and enjoyed it. DQ Heroes has a very similar feel.

That system looks atrocious. Iirc the slime actually plugs into the front USB ports for stability? Give us the the DQ MMO game on something that's not the Wii/WiiU and only in Japan please.

Apparently we should consider ourselves "lucky to be along for the ride" if/when it happens (journalist's words, not Square-Enix person)

Quote:
More Dragon Quest information coming out of PAX. Man, Siliconera must have grilled Dragon Quest Executive Producer Yuu Miyake and Mobile Producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto to get this much information. Today’s comments revolve around yet another game that hasn’t been localized in the West, the MMORPG Dragon Quest X.

Unlike the Dragon Quest VII 3DS remake and Rocket Slime 3, which would merely require a traditional translation, fans have generally accepted that Dragon Quest X would never be localized because running a worldwide MMORPG is a far more serious proposal. Miyake and Fujimoto more or less confirms their fears, even though they claim they would love to do it.

“In terms of this being an MMO, again, we have to consider the operation and logistics of how to make that feasible. We also have to think about it from a business standpoint. With Final Fantasy XI and XIV, it’s a global-scale endeavor. In terms of Dragon Quest, the way it’s perceived in the different countries is very, very different. How it’s perceived in Japan is different than how it’s perceived in the United States…

…In addition, we’d have to build a new data center for pretty much every location, and we need to make sure that makes sense as a business. We want to be able to operate in the different regions. Again, we would love to do it, but we’re still trying to work out the details and figure out what would work best [were we to bring it abroad].”

The general focus of Dragon Quest always has been and always will be in Japan. Americans are just simply lucky enough to be along for the ride. Dragon Quest X would require an absurd amount of subscribers to justify servers, pricing plans, and even a localization into English. Of course, I would love to see it in America as much as Miyake and Fujimoto would love to distribute it, but I would rather focus on the games we have a legitimate chance of getting, like Dragon Quest VII and Rocket Slime 3.

It’s a long shot, but if Dragon Quest X were to come to America, I think it would only be available for PC and mobile units. The Wii U doesn’t have the audience, and the Nintendo 3DS is played differently in crowded,Wi-Fi enabled Japan than it is in the disconnected United States.

Dragon Quest X is also the first game to be developed in-house at Square Enix, with other games in the past being developed by Chunsoft, Heart Beat, ArtePiazza, and of course, Level-5. Miyake explains the reasoning behind Square Enix wanting to tackle this one.

“In Japan, you have your outside developers who understand Dragon Quest and know what’s appropriate for a certain platform, so we worked with partners that knew what they were doing as well as what Dragon Quest was, and in that way it was a great partnership…

…With Dragon Quest X, because it’s an MMO, the team thought, ‘Okay, what company in Japan knows MMOs the best? Wait, that’s us! We’re running Final Fantasy XI, so, why not do it with an internal team?’ So, the concept isn’t about working with an outside company versus an inside company, it’s more like who works on a specific title and platform the best. We’re all kind of the same if you look at it from that perspective.”

Makes sense. No doubt Dragon Quest XI, believed to be a more traditional single player game, is under development at an outside studio with longtime creator Yuji Horii overseeing it. However, yes, Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV‘s success clearly puts Square Enix as one of the few Japanese studios to successfully make an MMORPG.

Plenty of other great news from Dragon Quest this week also. The first three games are being ported to smartphones, hopefully with other traditional gaming platforms in mind as well, and Sony also revealed a Dynasty Warriors brand of action game with Dragon Quest: Heroes.

So much happiness, hopeful thinking, praise, and enthusiasm about these new games. It’s almost like Dragon Quest has a large and loyal fanbase worth supporting in America… Square Enix…

Wouldn't shock me to see Dragon Quest X to receive a PC, or android, only release here in the states.

That would be pretty awful, would prefer not to have a release at all than on a system(s) I have no desire to play it on, especially an Android/iOS release. Ugh

Wow ... I think it's the first time I see a Console bundled with a game that won't be released for another 2+ months afterwards

The DQH PS4 bundle will launch in Japan on December 11th 2014, with a coupon that will allow you to download the game when it launches on Feb 25th 2015 (or 1 day ahead of the official launch for the game).

The bundle will cost 49,980 (the standard PS4 is 39,980, so the game isn't "given" either).

And I thought the X1 Assassin's Creed Unity bundle was pushing it. Still, it makes sense, most Japanese may not be Christian, but they still buy a ton of crap at Christmas.

Have to admit, that's a swanky looking box.

I'd love to get my hands on this game AND the Slime PS4. I've been having a DQ withdrawal since it was pretty much confirmed DQ7 3DS isn't coming stateside.

I honestly wouldn’t count on seeing Dragon Quest Heroes or any DQ game on the PS4.

The only reason we received the more recent DQ’s (besides X) is because of Nintendo. They were the ones who put the DQ VI remake as well as DQ IX and DQM: Joker 2.

I don’t know, maybe Sony would do the same for any DQ PS4 games, but I am not counting on it. It’s sad, really, as I loved DQ VIII and would love to see DQ come over here back on the Playstation console, but I just don’t see it happening.

Square has had plenty of time to bring DQ over to the USA, they really have 0 intention of bringing the series over here at any point in time.

I know, that's what I was saying.

You and I are agreeing. As I indicated, the only reason we’ve seen more recent DQ games is because of Nintendo as SE hasn’t had any interest in bringing them over.

Now with Dragon Quest Heroes on the PS4, and if DQ XI follows on the PS4, I wouldn’t count on seeing any of them unless Sony does the same as Nintendo and brings DQ over themselves.

Which is really sad, as I have enjoyed (most of) the DQ games.

The DQ PS4 sold decently, while not mind blowing (68000+ PS4 sold vs about 12k in previous weeks), knowing that the game isn't even out and that the console is more pricey than the basic model.

A new trailer was just released:

Not guaranteed in any way, but I'd say fairly good chance of that happening, given that Squeenix themselves put up a PS4 box on their blog
