Default Netflix's "Marco Polo" (Season 2 Streaming July)

Quote:
Intrigue. Deception. Bloodshed. These are just some of the obstacles awaiting legendary explorer Marco Polo as he navigates the inner court of 13th century ruler, Kublai Khan. From the back alleys of Venice to the perilous Silk Road, from the opulence of the Imperial City to the battlefields of China, Marco Polo is an epic action-adventure, where cultures clash, blood is spilled, and lies are told...

For TV, this has a big budget. Reports are that it was $90 million for 10 episodes. Looks good!

I'm really excited for this. Western adaptations of Asian culture are rare, even more so in TV land.

Same here, starting tonight and will try to get through all 10 episodes before the weekend is done.
Also depends on the wife and if she gets into it if it can be done.

Watched the first 3 episodes last night. I'm really enjoying it, although basic and formulaic. The acting is solid, production is fantastic and so far the story has kept me entertained, making me want to continue to the next episode.
There's a scene in the second episode that was just bad ass and you will know when you see it.
Is this The Game of Thrones ? No !!
Don't go in with those high expectations and I think you won't be disappointed.
I would recommend giving it 2 episodes to see if it clicks for you.

Interesting. I love historical epics. How is the action (if there is much/any)?

Not to much action in the first two episodes, but it has it's moments. The show does move along though and the big epic battle scenes do come along after they build up the characters and resolve alliances.
I don't want to give much away but there is going to be some massive battles on a huge scale.
There is some nudity/sex but mostly tame, violence is also on the conservative side.
It's no Spartacus that's for sure.
The locations, cinematography, set designs, costumes and special effects are really good.
The wife actually is enjoying it, and she's a tough critic. She loves Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, so with those shows on break this might be a good filler.

Sex/violence doesn't need to be over the top, as long is it isn't hollywood PG-13 tame.

Hopefully the final 7 episodes are better, too.

GoT is currently my favourite show. TWD can be fun, but is incredibly uneven.

Agree GoT is amazing , and also agree TWD can be uneven. I'm 5 episodes in on Marco Polo and it's good. I would have to say it's very much a paint by numbers at this point. Not much action in it but the pacing is done well so I'm not finding it boring. The setting, acting and cinematography are top notch.
I am still waiting for a bit more from it though.

I'm only 3 eps in and I'm really enjoying this. Its visually stunning and 5.1 isn't to shabby.

Martial arts, sex, violence, intrigue and deception, the acting is very solid, its a well rounded show lol.

I don't know how historically accurate it is. But I like it, and I'd recommend it anyone. My lady on the other hand doesn't care for it at all.

Watched first half of the season this weekend. Really liking it so far. Benedict Wong is just fantastic as Kublai Khan. Some really awesome fight scenes too.
