Honestly after seeing a thread started on here about how the ps3 doesn't upconvert the ps2 games that well and saw screens, I figured I would give it a test and got my brothers ps2 to see if I can see the difference from my ps3 60gb. And let me just say that the difference was huge, the picture quality in comparison was like night and day, the ps2 had the better quality. I didn't even have to go back and forth. I am going to buy the ps2 seperate when I get some money and that way I know 100% that it is backward compatible and that the picture quality looks way better. Oh and the ps2 is not as big as it use to be actually it's really small and thin, you could put it right beside it. I also tested it on my ln-t4665f and saw much difference. Even dvds adon't upconvert that good, so I bought a cheap hd-dvd player and the difference was very big, like the comment I made about the differences in the ps2 and ps3 , it was like night and day, it was much sharper, just dvd's guys so don't trip on that, lol. So I guess let me get back the question, for me they don't have to because I would just use it for blu-rays and ps3 games, that's it.

I haven't used a combined 0.5 gigs of my two PS3s......

One has never had a game played on it..... the space isn't a concern for me..... I just use them for movies, and once a wireless connected-capable stand-alone player hits the market, I'll get rid of both PS3s for one/two of them.

20go is way not enough.. just think everytime you have to install 4.7 or 5go to play a game.
plus in real you don t have 20go but 16 or 17go (3go for the system)

I have both 20 and 40go, 40go is the minimum. I regret I didn t buy a 60go model...

Yes and no.

I could care less for the HD size. It can be replaced with pretty much any size I need with little fuss.

BUT: I want my SACD support. I want my PS2 compatibility.

PS3 60 introduced me to SACD. I'm sorry Sony appears to be dropping support for SACD.

I don't think they should bring the 60GB back.

I think they should only have 80GB and 160GB.

If that were to happen then it would keep the people that think the hard drive space is too small to be quiet.

EDIT: I know there isn't a 160GB version, but I think there should be!

I think the OP was referring to the features of the 60GB PS3, not necessarily the HDD space. The 60GB is far and away the most feature-filled unit.

I am glad I have a 60 GB, but am not sure it is needed. The 80 GB seems to do pretty well for my friend as he has 4-5 PS2 games that he has played in it without issue.

That being said, 60GB is probably not going to be enough once Sony rolls out video store, etc.

Hey,

Hard drive will get nothing but bigger because... it makes little sense to keep manufacturing small hard drives when the big buyers (laptop makers for example) want larger drives for the low end systems.

So,.. It would be great to bring back the 60 GB model with whatever the current average low end laptop hard drive size would be. (maybe 80 or 100 or whatever.)

I have no doubts that they won't bring back the features of the 60GB PS3 though. The idea was to build it that way for a short time and then make the newer premium model do all the same stuff (in the case of ps2 via emulation.)

I'm glad I got the 60 even though I'm not much of a gamer. I have picked up some used PS2 games for $0.99 like Soul Calibur 2 even though I never had a PS1 or PS2. They work great and it's fun. My Gamestop has tons of great, cheap, used PS2 games and when you consider the PS3 upsamples them and gives you the wireless controller they represent a great gaming value.

I own a 60gb converted to a ~298gb PS3... My dad owns an 80gb. Huge difference in fan volumes. We also have a 40gb down at the lake. Both the 60gb and 40gb are EXTREMELY quiet machines. If they can get the 80gb to tone down on fan volume like the 40gb and 60gb, I'll bite every time. I wouldn't purchase a 40gb because it doesn't have the features I want like the 80gb version does, and the 80gb is missing key components I like in the 60gb. BC is a huge thing for me and contrary to a poster above, looks just like it did in ye olde days.

I wouldn't mind if they'd just make a machine like the 60gb and call it a 120gb... By far the 60gb is most rock solid of all the three I've had experience with in terms of features and noise. None of them have had technical issues (except the 40gb at the lake doesn't have internet)

You care about HD sizes then?

And to OP: Absolutely not. They're starting to profit from the PS3, why introduce an expensive PS2 processor in it?

They shouldn't bring it back. The newer versions of machines should be better on electricity & may be able just to do all of the functions via software.

I like the machines I have because of full compatibility and I won't be replacing until something happens to one of my current units or I get a new T.V. again. By then I'm sure they'll have a wonder PS3 out that does everything like the 60gb

What they should do is introduce another SKU that is like the 60: with hardware backwards compatibility and a full set of ports, and maybe a 100GB hard drive, but use the smaller chip that was made after the retirement of the old 60G.
