I'm rooting for Interstellar but I gotta be realist on this one and admit that Big Hero 6 will most certainly take the #1 spot.

Given its length, the Cinemark in Dallas with an IMAX screen is only scheduling three showings per day, even on weekends. 8 PM is the last showing.

My cinema is showing it in three screens at once, and four screens come prime time.

IMAX will most likely give Interstellar #1.

But Interstellar has no 3D boost that Big Hero 6 has and there are a ton more 3D screens than IMAX ones.

So it's kind of a wash in that regards.

The last big, must see animated film was in February. Families are starving for the next big animated film.

It looks like its going to be a very tight competition with these two. If Interstellar takes the #1 spot we know its because its been playing since Tuesday in most theaters.

I would think tuesday-thursday would take away some of the weekend business.

If you mean post-release, then yes, I won't argue that HTTYD2 didn't get the box office numbers it wanted. But if we're talking "must-see" and anticipated animated films this year, then Lego Movie and HTTYD2 fall into that category. Kind of a dry year in animation either way.

Early numbers favor Big Hero 6.

It's not a surprise.

Every time that two movies have each grossed more than $50 mil on a weekend, the animated one won.

Yep, damnit... Interstellar is over 2 hours long and is directed by Nolan. Word of mouth of the film being mediocre from film goers couldn't be the reason.

I suppose if Big Hero 6 was rated R and ran two hours and included beheading it's box office take would be justified.

I'd say this sentiment surprises me.

But it honestly doesn't.

Interstellar's numbers went down. Might not hit $50M now.

Ouija is surprisingly holding up well. Will make another 6M this weekend.
