Default Los Angeles Plays Itself (2003, Cinema Guild)

What a thrill it is to finally have this great documentary legitimately available on Blu-ray (and DVD). I saw it when it was first released theatrically in '03 and never imagined a legit home video release would be possible.

For those who haven't seen it, this is a fascinating and essential visual essay on the representation and misrepresentation of Los Angeles and its inhabitants on film, throughout cinema history.

Site review.

Wholly agree-this is a brilliant documentary that I never thought would see a release due to the rights clearances involved. Cinema Guild is to be commended!

If you have the chance by all means see Red Hollywood (1996).

RED HOLLYWOOD, duly noted. Been wanting to see that one. Big fan of Andersen's EADWARD MUYBRIDGE, ZOOPRAXOGRAPHER, as well. Saw a really nice print several years ago. I believe Cinema Guild may be putting out a DVD, possibly a Blu-ray, too.
