Default Setting Phase on Subwoofer

So on my Klipsch RW-12d, there is a setting on the menus called Phase (assuming its to adjust to make the sub in-phase with the speakers) and it goes from 0 to 180, just wondering if there's a science to setting this or what? lol

oh nice... well i put the phase to 180 and it gave me way better bass! Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture (in DTS 5.1) never sounded so alive!!!

The phase setting where you get the louder bass is the correct one. If bass sound waves are not in phase (out of phase) they cancel each other and their volume lowers or is eliminated.
