United Kingdom Hercules (2014)

2D Only on Amazon.co.uk

3D + 2D on Amazon.co.uk

The UK Blu-ray will be censored!!!

Quote:
Hercules is an interesting case in terms of censorship. After it was released in cinemas in a PG-13 version, it was quite clear that its numerous fights had the potential to be much more violent than what was delivered. But still, it had to be cut for the British theatrical release because the BBFC would have given it a "15" rating. The distributor wasn't happy about that and cut it down until the "12A" was achieved.

But the second chance to give British consumers what they demand and deserve, the distributor chose to put the same cut version out on DVD and Blu-ray. And to make it even worse, they also don't release the more violent Extended Cut in the UK, even though they put the film out in 3 different editions on December 1st, 2014. If you're interested in all the mayhem that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson creates, you'll have to order it from some other country. For example, you can order it at

New update on the censored part:

Quote:
Hercules - British Version Identical to US PG-13

We reported some months ago that Hercules starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was censored for the British cinema release and got that very same version on DVD and Blu-ray, as well. After we already released the comparison for the considerably more violent Extended Cut of the film (see comparison), we wanted to document the alterations that had been applied to the British theatrical version that hit UK retail on December 1st, 2014.

However, the comparison didn't show any differences between the British DVD and the US theatrical version or the Canadian Blu-ray. One possibility is that the DVD doesn't contain the UK cinema version but it seems more probable that the censorship that was made for the BBFC rating had been applied to all theatrical releases worldwide. This is always somewhat of a gamble because there's no clear indication whether pre-cuts due to BBFC advice end up affecting only UK releases or become the standard around the world for those films. In the case of Hercules or Pompeii the latter turned out to be the case but examples such as Remember Me (which was uncensored everywhere else even though pre-cuts were made in post-production) show that one can never be too sure and a check makes sense afterwards.

Ultimately, the only real option for fans of the film should be the Extended Cut anyway. And since that is not available in the UK, an import is advised. Germany or the US have the longer and harder version on board of their Blu-ray releases. You can order it at Amazon.com.

I'm calling bollocks on it being cut down from the US PG-13 version. Moviecensorship.com do this shit all the time. They appear to have no concept of what pre-cuts actually are and no proof that the 12A version doesn't mirror the US PG-13 release. I have seen the UK version and there's nothing soft about the battle scenes.

The BBFC are transparent with their advise with regards to how to acheive a rating. The MPAA are not, hence film makers seek advise from the BBFC during the editing process. If it gets a 12A in the UK, it's pretty much guaranteed a PG-13 in the US, (unless there's boobies or more than one f-word allowed through).

Sky Captain what do you think about the likelihood or not of us getting the extended cut? I mean Paramount gave us extended cuts of GI Joe Retaliation, World War Z along with their theatrical 3D versions.

We'll be one of the few territories that don't receive it, if that happens. It was only certified for release in Australia yesterday and that's out in early Dec as well. Australia are also getting a bonus disc, so that's whose getting my money.

Thanks. It would be very annoying for the UK not to get the extended cut.

Germany get the extended version from Paramount which is 16 rated there, plus if you buy the steelbook its 3D + 2D + BD bonus disk, so 3 disk.

Hilariously, I've been blocked from Disqus on Movie-Censorship.com and had my posts deleted for simply requesting proof of these rampant cuts that they are alleging for various UK releases.

That's a damn shame for UK viewers. I'm glad I'm region-free, but many don't have such a luxury. Home video releases Have long been the way to get past foolish theatric censorship, but here, they're not even bothering. Damn shame.

The first LOTR is a 16 in Germany and a PG in the UK, as is Star Trek TOS. Don't read too much into it...

The irony of a site about censorship, themselves censoring posts is delicious.

I enjoyed this movie, although it needed more monster action.

I've returned my US copy as my region free player is very intermittent and I really wanted a region B version for watching in my main player. I have pre-ordered the German steelbook which has the 3D, the extended cut and the bonus disc. It's expensive but seems like the best option for me.

Australia is also getting the extended version on Blu-ray. It was classified MA 15+ recently with the "strong violence" box ticked. The tamer DVD and cinema releases received an M classification.

You do understand what pre-cutting during post production with BBFC advice means, right?
