WHY Apocalypto in Blu-ray is beating MATRIX IN HDDVD only for Two reasons:

1st reason Awsome PQ AND SQ unbeatable

2nd Reason it is a New Title every person looking to see it in HD after watching it in Theater.

It is of Course on BD Well Done Disney releasing extraordinary titles lately

Sorry for my mistake here( I Mean MAtrix not Pirates) and yes it is a very good movie

It's also a very good movie.

HD-DVD just got owned as the disc breakdown shows. Throw in Apocalypto and on a disc by disc basis, Blu-ray dominated. I think Harry Potter would sell very well if Warner were to release them on HD-DVD first. Did I just give WB a bright idea?

I was peering into the sales of the pirates disc in my district for BB.
Stores got between 55-100 copies of each pirates film.
On monday night I checked the sales so far and all stores had sold through half or more of their allocations. My store got 55 copies, we are down to 20 of each, seems by the numbers people were buying both.

"We are thrilled by the critical and industry response to 'Pirates' on Blu-ray disc," Chapek said. "But more importantly, the consumer has spoken loud and clear. This is only the beginning, but it was certainly a significant and explosive indicator of things to come."
Bob Chapek and Disney deserve a round of applause. Not only have they shown magnificent public and release support, they have also pushed and pushed the envelope of quality.

Yep, and I especially like his last sentence, "This is only the beginning, but it was certainly a significant and explosive indicator of things to come." Disney is going all out. I just wish they would reschedule The Rock and Crimson Tide soon...

I was thinking the other day about the whole release schedule, etc.

I recall Graffeo (sp?) saying that HD DVD would probably stay flat and then come out fighting in Q4 (no doubt due to Bourne 3 and other 'expected hits' being available).

So I am wondering if the BDA studios have taken that somewhat to heart and are pushing back key releases to make the holiday season a real battleground...?

Perhaps they see the mid year as unimportant now, with a lot of dull catalogue titles coming out from Universal which will do little to change things.

The other likely thing contributing to this is the advent of profile 1.1 - perhaps they are holding back titles like Cars in order to ensure they are 1.1 compliant and maybe take advantage of 1.1 features.

Certainly if Warner has Matrix and Batman Begins etc waiting for 1.1 and 1.1 makes it before Holiday Season, there could be some very interesting things going down at years end.

Anyways, congrats to Disney - and thanks to them for keeping BD on top!

Does any else find it odd that the HD-DUD Planet Earth set has, and will, outsell the Matrix box set on HD-DUD by a wide margin?

" Update (6/1/07, 5:27PM ET):
Several readers have written in to complain that comparing sales data for the 'Matrix' box sets to the two individual 'POTC' releases is a case of apples and oranges. They argue that the 'Pirates' Blu-ray discs benefited from a wave of pre-release publicity for the the third film in the series, while the Matrix box set was dragged down by the fact that many fans already own the original 'Matrix' on DVD, and had little interest in the second and third installments of the series, making the higher pricepoint for the two boxsets a particularly tough sell. "

No mention of Circuit City accidentally pricing the Matrix Trilogy at $19.99 for two days. That site is soooo lame.

WWWaaaaahhh! What a bunch of crybabies. Blame it on Warner for releasing on the 22nd then.

Whatever way you dice it, whatever justification you use, the POTC discs come out on top, end of story. And would've even if there wasn't a POTC 3 being released.

And I'm sure CC was pretty happy about having to honour those $19.99 orders.

Then perhaps Warner and the HD DVD promotion group shouldn't have made such a big deal out of it by deliberately putting it up against Pirates and then promoting it like crazy, begging the comparison.

It was well predicted by HD DVD fans that the sales wouldn't be close. But, then the buzz started. Toshiba added a $100 off. B&M were adding it as a bonus. The PRG put ads everywhere. They made it into a big deal, transforming it from what had appeared to be a mere slap in the face to Disney by Warner, into an all out battle of the war.

And, if you look on here, enough people were spooked by the spin that was occuring to wonder whether HD DVD had pulled of some sort of coup.

The PoTC sets are incredibly packaged and very well done. I cannot believe how committed Disney is to the format...great job!

I didn't know that Pirates of the Caribbean hadn't been released till May 22, 2007 on DVD Amazing what one learns from HD Digest.
