Hello everyone!
I'm new to the forum, even though I've been looking at this site for about two months now. I didn't know much about the format war until last year, when I looked up information regarding DVD's. I learned about HD-DVD, and was impressed with the jump in space per layer, and the ability to have 1920x1080 video stored and viewed, as opposed to the 720x480 video with a standard DVD. I didn't know much about Blu-Ray, until I learned of more details regarding the PS3. I decided to do some research into Blu-Ray, and was just blown away! 25GB per layer, as opposed to the 15GB for HD-DVD. Support for more than two layers, with the disc design. Overall, sure the cost was a little higher, but as a kind of person who likes to think in the long term, I certainly began supporting Blu-Ray all the way. It's got the exclusive support of MGM, which controls the Stargate franchise, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Disney, and Lionsgate. Not to mention Columbia/Tristar--all exclusively to Blu-Ray! This information I learned over the past several months put me in the direction that Blu-Ray would certainly win. I am glad that Warner and Paramount support the format as well, but I would prefer exclusive support to Blu-Ray. I am dissapointed that Universal Studios has chosen to support HD-DVD exclusively, because with the media power of NBC/Universal, it just grinds my gears. Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, both great shows, are controlled by NBC/Universal. I have decided to throw my word into the forum here now, and show my support for Blu-Ray. I don't have any HD equipment, since I don't have the kind of financing needed. Besides, I would prefer more assurance as time goes on that Blu-Ray will certainly win as a successor to DVD. I analyze movie trailers now to see which studio is distributing the film. I am excited when it is Sony, Fox, or MGM. When it is Universal, I am dissapointed somewhat. When it is Warner or Paramount, I am glad that it will be on Blu-Ray, but with HD-DVD as well, the format war is prolonged. Instead of boycotts, I would certainly support encouraging the studio companies to support Blu-Ray exclusively, or in Universal's case, to support Blu-Ray as well. A smart letter campaign could go a long way, if done right. When I do get a HDTV, it will be certainly 1080p, or no deal. The first Blu-Ray movie I will get will most likely be Stargate. I've discussed Blu-Ray over at GateWorld in the forum, since MGM does Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. That's my word for now. Glad to be here! ![]() |
