That's kind of mean dude. She's your mom. I don't get all the hate for him any more than I do for Lloyd, but oh well. Lloyd I really can't understand. So much hate was directed at a 9 year old boy. That is really sad.

I agree with the Lloyd hate. I thought he did great, he played a 9 year old like a 9 year old. I also think that The Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels and the only one that I can tolerate. I find Revenge Of The Sith to be so terrible that I feel insulted by it. These are the exact opposites of how most feel so it just goes to show that we all like different things.

Since this film is coming out on Christmas day I wonder when the merchandise will start to trickle out? I can only imagine the hell that Black Friday in 2015 will be.

PS. the thing about my mom was a joke.

At any rate, I'm starting to get the feeling that some of the "meh" folks wished this looked more like the prequels with cartoon CGI crap all over the place. This makes me sad.

Like your optimistic attitude. A seriously bad ass Gungan would be funny and take people by surprise.

Very true. I said it before, any flaw you can find in his performance can be traced to Lucas's directing. 9 year olds can't think on the level of an adult performer and have to be guided through a scene. If you've seen the video of him grown up and talking about his experience with the PT it is really kind of sad to hear that he has become so cynical about it. At the time he must have been the happiest 9 year old on earth and now he probably wishes he had never been cast.

PS. I kind of figured the joke, but was still kind of hit for a minute. Nothing personal I hope.

Thank you. I try to be. I don't like being cynical about these things. Where's the fun in it then?

I thought The Phantom Menace was pretty terrible but yeah I can tolerate it more than the other two. I think, overall, it was the best one of a lousy bunch. And it had the best score.

Why are both sides using the same fighters from 30 years ago? Maybe some "facelifts" after a few years but 30 years?

The Falcon is a personal thing so it's okay.

Not fanboy complaints or anything, just honest question.

In real life military vehicles can remain in use for several decades, and considering the level of technology they're at in the Star Wars universe, logically they should have the means to perfect what they're going for and not need a big update in a long, long time. That's my take on it anyway.

I would think that even though Vader is dead, the Emperor is dead and the second Death Star destroyed that even 30 years later the Governors that were mentioned in A New Hope would still have control over their territories and be fighting like hell to keep them. They would still be using the old ships, uniforms and weapons.

I also want to add that yes, during the PT and before the OT the technology used by the Republic/Empire seems to change more extremely and rapidly, but that was after a long time of peace. I figure the vehicles used in the OT are basically the perfected war machines.

I never liked the "OT is during the dark ages, so that's why everything looks so much more shiny in the PT" excuse. It was so lame.

[Show spoiler]Geek heaven! I wish I could have been there for the Q & A, even though Dennis Muren didn't have much involvement in AOTC, as far as I remember. I don't care for 3-D myself, although I did catch TPM in 3-D, of course. Thanks for sharing.

I would advise you to stay away from him, as he is a PT hater of the highest order.

Yeah, Jake was fine. I am friends with him on FB. He is a really nice guy.
I feel so sorry for him. The haters should be ashamed of themselves, but they only cause others suffering, because they themselves suffer.
The healing must begin.
Love your positive attitude.

Jar Jar is funny. I have no problem with him at all.

I really hope there will be some CG characters in this one as well.
That's one of the many things I love in the PT.
Watto, Poggle the Lesser, Sebulba, Dexter, etc., they added so much to the SW universe.

As much as I dont like Jar Jar, I would still get a kick out of seeing him in a background scene. I dont want any obvious connection to the prequels but im okay with blink&miss cameos from the prequels, same goes for Clone Wars cartoon characters.

Sith dude walking through a snowy forest by himself - is he gonna channel Annie by throwing a tantrum slicing up some trees?

I cant wait for the scene that explains Lando's disappearance - Luke and Han will visit Lobot (now recast with Robert Duvall) and he'll explain why Lando is gone.

Does anyone know if Billy Dee Williams officially said he's not in these new movies? It's hard to believe because he voiced Lando in the Lego Movie and the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon. Does anyone think they are saving him as surprise cameo? Sort of like they did with Spock in the new Star Trek?

See, it's way too easy to be negative and come up with some generic criticism that's so subjective, it can't be argued with.

So we see criticisms like the following:
"It didn't grab me."
"It looked like just a bunch of shots edited together"
"That cute droid was horrible"
"Oh my god, they changed the glow on the lightsabers again"
"It didn't look real"
"Too much CGI"
"It wasn't as good as this other trailer"

And you can't argue with such criticisms because from the point of view of the person making the criticism, if you don't agree, then you are obviously less sophisticated than they are, thereby making the critic feel superior about themselves.

The web is a great vehicle for fans to talk about these movies, but IMO, it's become detrimental because it enables the trolls (even if they're sometimes partially correct) to kill a movie way before it's even released. And in this case, that will give them a whole year to discuss how bad this film is going to be.

I think I already posted the following somewhere, but TCM had a documentary on the other night that featured an interview with Lucas. And one interesting thing Lucas said was that when the original films were made before the age of home video, they were never meant to be seen repeatedly: they were meant to be seen once in a movie theatre. He implied that when fans can dissect a film the way they can today because of home video, you have to make films in a different way (although he didn't seem to have learned that lesson when he made the prequels.) I thought that was a pretty insightful comment from Lucas. When you completely dissect something, you lose sight of the fact that the whole is much more than the sum of its parts and that's probably more true for filmmaking than any other creative endeavor.

I'm not that big a Star Wars fan. I've seen all the movies theatrically and the early films in both the original and special editions theatrically. I own the BD set and I still have the unaltered OT on VHS. But that's it - I don't obsess over this stuff and I've never watched the animated series, played a Star Wars video game or read a Star Wars novel. But I will admit to being interested and intrigued by the trailer.

I think everyone should calm down and give the film a chance. No matter what mistakes Abrams may make, they'll be worse if he ever actually listened to the fans.

This film takes place about 50 years after the last prequel (right?) so Jar Jar might be dead. At the very least, he'd be pretty old, although I don't know how long Gungans live. There's a post online somewhere that says they live until about 65. But if he's still alive, I'd love a cameo of him in a political prison shooting a needle up his arm.

Annie: Little girl who wears red dresses and has curly hair who is going to be played by Quvenzhané Wallis (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4832920/) in the upcoming film. Always smiling. Wants to be adopted. Has squeaky voice.

Ani: Man who acts like an angry little girl who sometimes wears robes, but not red dresses. Has wavy, but not curly hair. Always crying. Wants to be Jedi. Winds up wearing black, not red. Has whiny voice except when wearing helmet, when he miraculously sounds like an extremely intelligent and physically large black man with perfect diction.

The hate for Jar Jar and for Lloyd is because all these macho Star Wars lovers feel that their masculinity is threatened if they profess any love for silly creatures or for small boys. It's also why they hated the Ewoks. They also hated Natalie Portman because they resented the fact that they could never get a woman that smart and hot. If C3PO was not in the OT and was introduced only in the PT, they would have hated him as well.

(OK, I'll admit that part of the hate for Jar Jar is because he was annoying as hell and his speech pattern was considered a bit racist, although I personally think the latter is an overreaction.)

Many of these macho men have large collections of Star Wars action figures.

There was nothing wrong at all with Lloyd as an actor in that role. There was plenty wrong with the way he was written.
