List what you think have been the 10 most important games during the Playstation era. Here are what I think are without a doubt the most important games/franchises in the Playstation era...
1.) Resident Evil (PS1): This is the game that changed everything IMO. It truly was the first time where I thought gaming was going to graduate from being a kid's hobby to being enjoyed by people of all ages. It was a game changer. 2.) Metal Gear Solid (PS1): My all time favorite game on PS1. For it's time, this game had production values and story telling not yet seen on console. 3.) Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2): While this series got it's start on PS1 as a top down experience. It wasn't until 3 came out on PS2 where it completely blew the doors open on 3D open world gaming. This game alone was responsible for moving a TON of units during the PS2 era. 4.) Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec (PS2): The series started on PS1. However GT3 A-Spec was a phenominal achievement on PS2 hardware for it's time. It was beautful to look at, beautiful to play, and just looke head and shoulders better than anything else on the PS2 at the time and sold a lot of PS2's 5.) Crash Bandicoot (PS1): Playstation finally had it's "Mario" and for it's time, this game was an amazing achievement. So much so that it even impressed Shigeru Myamoto who took time out at E3 to play it and showered the developers with complements on how good the game was. 6.) Uncharted 2 (PS3): While the first Uncharted was great, Uncharted 2 was spectacular! It was the first time where a game had given me real confidence in what the PS3 was capable of. 7.) Final Fantasy 7 (PS1): IMO this is the game that put console RPG's on the map. While JRPG's in previous generations had loyal followings, it was FF7 that catapulted them into the mainstream. I knew tons of gamers back then who weren't even into RPG's buying this game. 8.) The Last Of Us (PS3): Referred to by many as the "Citzen Kane" of video gaming and to be honest, I can't really disagree with that. An absolute instant classic and huge achievement in story telling, character development, voice acting, graphics, gameplay, etc. THIS game has it all. 9.) God of War (PS2): Greek mythology, graphic violence, gorgeous visuals, and fun gameplay. This game, while coming out later in the PS2's life cycle, managed to move a lot of units and launch an endearing character in the Playstation aresenal. 10.) Little Big Planet (PS3): Such a fun an innovative platformer! The whole "play, create, share" concept was born right here in this game and it resulted in over a million user created levels. This game was truly an innovative idea at the time. |
