The cuts are significant.
Most disappointing is that the death of Kerseys daughter is only shown in long shot . The original closeup shot was even included in the UK version although I think the recent UK reissue has taken the R version .

Death Wish 2 is pretty much uncut everywhere else but there are usually alternate releases and any release by MGM of DW2 is cut.

There is an Australian release from Sony that is uncut and double billed with the first one.
Dutch reissues are worse than the R version.

There is no uncut Blu of DW 2 at the moment.
With there being over 99 seconds missing in a single edit for just one of the R cuts we could do with one.

Me either. The scenes still have the impact. Some people in this thread are being way too overdramatic about the cuts, IMO.

I wished this site listed this release:

Bronson Triple Threat Collection
Death Wish 2 / Death Wish 3 / Death Wish: The Crackdown

as

Death Wish 2 / Death Wish 3 / Death Wish: The Crackdown
Bronson Triple Threat Collection

so it could be listed/alphabetized in my collection page under 'D' (along the first Death Wish movie), and not under 'B' (for Bronson)…

Saw this movie way back when it was first released, loved it. Would love to retire my DVD with a nice Blu ray release.

I just blind bought the German release of Caboblanco along with several other titles. Any thoughts on that film?

Not one of his best, actually the opposite. One of the worst movies he did where he was the star. He has a great one-liner in it though and Jason Robards is in it, so it's not a total loss at all.

It's nothing of the kind.
The R version may contain a few instances of alternate angles but the bottom line is that it is cut to pieces for an R rating .
The version as signed off by the director and uncut is available almost everywhere else in the world.
One of the cuts is a single edit of 99 seconds - not alternate angles or different shots - its 99 seconds totally missing.

While the footage is disturbing and graphic as it was intended to be I find it hard to understand how any movie collector can try to justify an edited version of a movie that has been cut purely for censorship.

Similar edits to most of the horror films collectors buy would render that release null and void as collectors want complete films , not edited versions.

this subject truly is a but in this case it's a combination of 2 things--

1] As a Bronson fan, I was thrilled to finally get DEATH WISH 2 in not only widescreen (the dvd was not) but in hi def!

2] what was cut makes a huge difference. If it was an important scene with Charlie blasting a mugger that would be bad. A few extra seconds of rape or a stronger "impact" of his daughter's death don't take away anything from me enjoying the movie....

Basically the blu-ray looks horrible, and possibly a 1080i upscale. Apparently they also botched both audio tracks. Quite harsh. I don't know who the hell it was that left the 5*/5* for it on this site, but from what I've read online and over at the Cinefacts forum, the DVD is much better.

[Show spoiler]

And to add insult to injury, the BD cover art is absolutely abysmal.

I've never seen this one or LOVE AND BULLETS... hoping for KINO to release them in the U.S soon.... They're surely lesser titles but that's fine-- I want them anyway in my collection

I donīt like "CaboBlanco" very much but itīs not his worst film of the 70īs.

His worst film in my opinion is "Chino"(1973, directed by John Sturges).

The uncut Australian dvd of DW2 is also in widescreen as were the European releases of the others in the series.
Death Wish is one movie series where the US fan gets shortchanged every time.

Whether you enjoy one of your favourite movies in a censored version sanctioned by state censors is entirely your decision but I would bet that it's a view the majority of movie collectors would not agree with and it's a view I've only ever come across once in 35 years of collecting movies on video - and Death Wish 2 is that single film for which people seem to be happy to buy an edited version even if the uncut version is available practically everywhere else in the world.
DW2 remains pretty much the one and only movie where buyers will encourage collectors its a worthwhile purchase - the complete opposite of what would happen with any other title in any other genre.

I had this disagreement with somebody else a while ago and it all sounded like they were trying to convince themselves it was not a waste of money to buy the R edit. ( depends if seeing it in HD is more important than seeing the original version I guess)

I have to laugh at this poster acting like Death Wish II is some kind of high art. It's a good sleazy fun action movie. That's why most people don't care too much about it being slightly edited. I'm not going to lose sleep because my blu-ray copy is missing a few rape thrusts and a bit of gore. I'm grateful to have it on HD at all. I doubt we will ever get another release of it.

I got Death Wish 2-4 in the "Triple Threat Collection" for $10 - one of the best movie deals I've ever had.

Yes, who watches films for rape scenes? I watch it to see Charles Bronson shoot bad guys. I want to see this film in HD with lossless audio and not on DVD just for the extended rape scene.

So it's all about the media format and not the director's intent for you? Enjoy the censored film (but it's in HD though!).

Yes, i saw the film for the first time on Blu-ray last year, so i haven't seen the uncut version. I probably won't see it either. I do enjoy the film on Blu-ray. I won't enjoy it more on DVD just because it has a longer rape scene.
