While I'm just starting the thread now, I've actually been working on finishing out the basement coming up on two years this May. Bought the house almost 3 years ago, waited a year to see if any issues would pop up (flooding, etc). For the most part, it was problem free, only some leaking around the basement windows that was solved by installing some shallow wells on the outside and the occasional main line backup of greywater (which I solved by buying a motorized snake and running it through every 3-4 months, it's a little smaller than the ones real plumbers use).
It's pretty slow going but I haven't been in any rush either. I've been doing all the work by myself except for the electrical wiring, I hung all the cans and outlets but left the actual wiring to the electrician. I needed to upgrade the power box anyway since all the breakers were being used with pretty much all of them being split, so that was a worthwhile investment beyond my skill set. Overall, I probably average only 2-3 hours a week on it and there have been a few unmotivated months where I didn't put any work in. Helps spread the cost out though since there's still plenty of stuff left to buy. I decided to start the thread since the theater/bar room is finally coming together and I'm hoping to have a projector up and running in time for my birthday this July, but that will be a budget issue more than a time issue. Here is the floor plan I drew up in CAD: ![]() Here is the ceiling plan: ![]() The entire basement was left unfinished and kind of dingy. The slab is uneven in many spots (quite a few dips in the 1/4" range), the entire basement was only lit by two bulbs, 1'x1.5' slab hole was cut for access to some basement pipes, and a couple nasty partitions from awhile ago. Here are a few shots of the unfinished basement (with loads of my crap down there, made for some difficulty arranging until I got shelving units). These were taken back in March of 2013. These few photos were taken back in May of 2013. For the exterior walls, I strapped 2" rigid insulation by using screw anchors through 1x3's and then hung the 2x4's off the strapping. Photo towards the bar corner: ![]() Another photo towards the bar corner from the laundry area: ![]() Photo toward the future bathroom, not much done, pretty much laying up insulation sheets at this point: ![]() Coming up soon will be photos taken tonight of the progress I've made. You're going to see a big difference, for some reason I thought I took intermediate photos of the partitions being built and drywall starting to be hung, etc. Turns out, I did not ![]() Last edited by deltatauhobbit; 10-09-2015 at 09:29 PM. |
