Newbie...please help

I just bought a blu-ray player and wanted to try it out using my projector (atleast until my Auqos 1080p HDTV comes in). Well, my projector handles 1080i and my projection screen is standard (not wide screen).

All is fine when I play regular Dvds...I can change the aspect ratio to 16:9 or 4:3 letterbox through the blu-ray player and the picture fits the screen (no over-projection).

When I play blu-ray discs it will only play in wide screen and when I change the aspect ratio through the player, nothing happens. I tried changing it through the projector, but the function does not work when using the HDMI input.

Any ideas?
