The idea behind the Sankara Stones are based on actual relics in Hinduism, Lingam stones - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingam

- Spielberg and Lucas just changed the name and added something of their own making to the mythology surrounding the specific stones in their story.

Same with The Lost Ark in the first film. It existed and the film duo designed it in their film to resemble what historical sources say about what the Ark looked like.

The Crystal Skulls however have been completely debunked under the guise of modern technology's ability to examine those relics in detail. None of the famous ones were ever manufactured by the South American cultures associated with them, but most likely fabricated by Europeans in the 19th/20th century using corresponding tools from those time periods.

Who said anything about films stopping making money?

As population grows and markets grow and ticket prices increase, these records all fall eventually, especially since they aren't based on attendance, but grosses. A $16 IMAX 3D ticket in 2015 isn't the same thing as a three-cent child's admission in 1937. So they're meaningless to me. If SW7 "beats" Jurassic World or Avatar, yay, I guess. If it doesn't, something eventually will, short of some global catastrophe like a third World War. If you're into those statistics, go for it. I'm not criticizing anyone. I'm saying I personally don't care.

'Star Wars' Anakin Skywalker
Arrested After Crazy Car Chase

Quote:
Jake Lloyd, the actor who played the young Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," was arrested, TMZ has learned, after an insane car chase that ended when Jake plowed into some trees.

Cops say Lloyd was driving in Charleston, South Carolina, when Sheriff's deputies began pursuing him. The chase was underway and it went on for miles, into another county.

Deputies say Jake began passing cars on the double yellow line and began driving recklessly, at high speeds.

Cops say eventually Jake lost control of his car, which ran off the road, through a fence and into a wooded area where it struck several trees.

The 26-year-old who also starred in "Jingle All the Way" was arrested for reckless driving, failure to stop, resisting arrest and driving without a license.

He's currently in custody.

Don't be naive: he didn't have to be in this movie. But I'm sure that even though his screen time is probably relatively little, they offered him a ton of money for not very many days work. (OK, he did hurt his leg, so it wasn't that easy). Almost no one turns down an offer like that. Plus, the financial success of the film will keep him as a marketable star so he can still get other roles.

I don't "feel sorry" for Ford. While he's a great screen personality, he's only moderately talented and enormously rich, making him one of the luckiest men in the world. Especially considering that he was going to give up acting and become a carpenter early in his career AND that he got the Indiana Jones role only because Tom Selleck couldn't get out of his TV contract, he's been very blessed. And they're probably only killing him off because of his age - they needed him so as not to alienate the old fans, but they need to get rid of him so that future sequels better appeal to younger people.

He may like putting down "Star Wars" and he may repeat the story of how he asked Lucas to kill off his character, but aside from "Star Wars" and the "Indiana Jones" films, he's only made a few films that have had impact: Blade Runner (but not when it was released), Patriot Games, The Fugitive and Air Force One. IMO, his best recent performance, although it was a relatively small role, was in "42" as Branch Rickey.

When I was in my 20s, anyone over 30 looked ancient to me. They don't anymore (well at least some don't) because I'm old myself. I always laugh when I see some old movie with actors who I always thought of as being really old, but when I watch the movie now, I think, "hey...they looked really good." But Ford and others like him must still look ancient to the eyes of younger people and except for old wizards and the like, most young people don't want to see really old people in their films, even if that's kind of silly.

It would be excellent fan fiction material though inserting Earth in the SW universe, I even dabbled in the thought myself a few times.
They could come to earth anywhere from now to a few hundred years ago, say "jeez, what a stinking mess - and we think we've got problems!" and immediately leave.

Or, the Sith could come to Earth in the 1940s and secretly provide the technology that leads to the Atomic Bomb.

Or, the Sith could come to Earth in ancient times and their appearance leads to the concept of the Devil in our culture.

They must have been here at one point - how else did they learn to speak English?

Now he looks evil! We needed more of that attitude when he was a kid. If young Vader looked like that instead of how Christensen looked, maybe episodes II and III would have been far more believable.

He's obviously troubled and this is what happens when you're publicly humiliated and persecuted one's entire life. We did this to him - it's our fault!!!

I've never ridiculed Jake Lloyd, and he's a grown man and responsible for his own actions. He can blame all the mean Star Wars fans and the kids who were mean to him when he was younger for his troubles, but ultimately he got into trouble because of bad choices.

What an odd post; you're on form today. I'm not being "naive"; I know Ford's never been enamoured with this acting malarkey and clearly you're not his biggest fan, but he WAS angling for Han to be killed off during the OT (remember, they put Han in Carbonite because they weren't sure Ford would even sign up for a third movie, and even when he did he was asking for Han to be killed off anyway), and what better way for him to put the capper on his tenure as Han Solo by getting killed off AND getting a shitload of money (and back end profits no doubt) for doing so? Try not to take things so seriously.

Yeah, and it's not like he's the first child actor (successful or not) that went off the rails. Like I said, Zoet's on form today.

Dunno 'bout that. You see how obsessive-compulsive the haters are about making nasty comments about anything/anyone to do with the prequels. I can't imagine all the crap he sees & hears.

Yeah, I know he had a hard time - even if he hadn't directly stated as much (which he has), we all know enough to know he would have been given a hard time over it from jerky people.

Quote:
But as Lloyd revealed in a recent interview, that was nothing compared to what he got at home: “My entire school life was really a living hell,” the now-23-year-old Lloyd said by way of explaining why he entered “early retirement” from acting at the age of 12, which was certainly by choice. According to Lloyd, not only was he bombarded with “up to 60 interviews a day,” he was taunted by “really mean” schoolmates who would “make the sound of the light saber every time they saw me”—until finally he could take the logistically unlikely attention and scathing sound effects no more, let the hate flow through him, and “destroyed all of his Star Wars memorabilia.” Goood. Goooood.

These days, Lloyd not only won’t watch Episode I—blaming George Lucas for failing to "meet the standards of the public"—he wants nothing to do with the franchise at all, noting that he’s “only reprised his role as Anakin for five video games” (Only five!), and avowing that he’s learned to “hate it when the cameras are pointed at me.” Except, of course, when attending fan conventions, where he can then autograph those cameras’ photos and charge them for the privilege. But even this is small consolation for the hell we continue to put him through.
http://www.avclub.com/article/emstar...as-been--70466

And you see videos like this, where he has to put up with this a-hole, who never gets rid of this smug grin throughout the entire interview:

He got crap as a kid, he undoubtedly gets crap now. Not only online, but to his face, I'm sure. There are people who (unfairly) take it out on Lloyd. People blame a kid who was nine when he made a movie they didn't like. Believe me, huge Star Wars fan, I've seen the hatred and the heavily negative response the prequels have received online for the past fifteen years.

I think it's too bad that people take things out on Lloyd, a kid who was nine. He didn't write or direct the movie. He gave a kind of crappy performance, but again... nine year old kid.

I've always felt bad for him, but I'll maintain my position that people can't go around blaming people for their issues, or that Star Wars fans - jerky as they can be - didn't "do this to him," as Zoet stated. There's personal responsibility there, child star or not.

It's possible that the treatment could be a reason that led him to acting this way, sure, but to lay this on Star Wars fans who talked crap about him online or even to his face as if they're responsible is unfair.

Lots of people get crap treatment in life and don't act out over it or make poor choices. Or if they do, it's still - ultimately - their responsibility.

And this could also have nothing to do with his past and Star Wars, too. Maybe his girlfriend dumped him, or maybe he just wanted to go fast, or any untold number of reasons. As an adult, it's still on him, whatever his reasons may be.

Just looked up his net worth. 3.9 Million. He is in his mid 20's and has crazy amounts of cash. He may hate Star Wars but I think that net worth has helped a lot.

The problem is that people always bring it up and he was often bullied for it when he was in school, I barely got out with my sanity from High School and I didn't have that kind of baggage, his life must have been a nightmare cash or no cash.
The only solution would be probably living as a recluse, but not all people are so anti-social to be able to bear it.

For the same reason we don't hear Westron (also known as the"Common Speech) when watching LOTR, it's called translation convention.

These are fantasy worlds, technically speaking neither the world of LOTR make sense if we assume is in our universe or even Earth itself, it's the same with Star Wars.
