You can either quickly spend all the resources you have gathered throughout the year and quickly get to the highest rank or take your time and spend it on gear you truly want leveled up.

I did lots of grinding on my Hunter but then I kept some mid - high weapons and ghost and put it on my warlock and I'm quickly ranking him up as well.

I haven't even looked at my Hunter or Titan. I'm only at 206 light with my Warlock. I'd spend fifty coins to be able to quickly jump to 250 or so to start getting better gear that would eventually let me run the nightfall and weekly.

I'm not even thinking about the raid until at least next week or the week after.

You can also use motes of light to pump XP into your armor / weapons but also level up factions to get better packages, case you didn't know.

I didn't know you could level up factions with motes. I have probably 400. I did know that you could rank them up with heavy synths and I have over 300 of those spread across my three characters. I may have to try that for a drop. I only have one piece of legendary armor and no legendary weapons. Anything would be an improvement at this point.

Motes is 100 XP, materials is 50XP , Heavy and Special ammo is 25XP.

Make sure you that you decrypt the engrams one at a time and when you get a higher light level armor or weapon you equip it and then continue decrypting engrams.

Trust me when I say you shouldn't worry about your light level. Both Robert and I went up to 275+ by just running the level 36 strikes. The engrams drop like there's no tomorrow, and if you "decode" them one at a time at the Cryptarch, you're pretty much guaranteed to get an item that's better than what's currently in that slot.

For example...I got a Legendary 280 chest piece from a blue engram yesterday, and today I got a blue 287 chest from another blue engram. The upgrades are non stop, and it doesn't take much effort to get a decent light level. It's kinda weird though, to think that a 280 Vanguard helm costs 120 marks, but a level 36 strike can give you a blue engram that turns into a 280+ item.

Anyway, this process also helps with Legendary marks, since blues can't be infused, the lower stat Legendary items can be dismantled, unless you want to keep upgrading that particular piece of gear. But...this costs Legendary marks every time, so I feel that at this point it's just better to dismantle the lower stuff to bank the marks for future exotics.

My goal is to complete the Nigtfall before the weekly reset. Either Sunday or Monday night would be ideal. Who knows, I might even be ready for the Nightfall tomorrow.

And after completing the Quest where you have to run 5 Heroic Strikes, that Quest turns into a "complete the Nightfall" Quest. So it all works out.

That's the way to go.
I've leveled up my Future War Cult 12 levels in 3 days with about 600 or 700 heavy synths, tons of motes, and armor/weapon parts.
Every new level gave me a Legendary Armor or Weapon and 5 motes and more goodies.

spent some time finding the ghosts I was missing in The Black Garden.
