I think it's the aspect ratio it was shot in that's getting it by. 2.35.0 instead of 1.85.0, if it was shot in 1.85.0 it would utilise all 3840 x 2160 pixels on the TV screen, if it was shot in 2K then that would be a problem as there clearly would be more pixels on you're TV screen then the digital file it was shot at. as it was shot at 2.35.0 black bars will utilise some of the 3840 x 2160 pixels that the TV has, essentially you're getting better black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. does that make sense? |

Right well either way do all concerned get my point. with HD 2.35 films do not utilise the entire amount of pixels available but get away with calling themselves HD, like wise for Ultra HD films. My point is there must be a written compromise somewhere that even governments agree with.

As there is no price available yet for this player, by taking a pre-order you understand that you are NOT purchasing the goods for free. You may cancel your order at any time.:
1 x I understand * "Samsung UBD-K8500" is not available in the requested quantity. 1 of the items will be backordered I was hoping for a pre order price guarantee ![]() |

"Content Master • The UHD Alliance Content Master must meet the following requirements: • Image Resolution: 3840x2160 • Color Bit Depth: Minimum 10-bit signal • Color: BT.2020 color representation • High Dynamic Range: SMPTE ST2084 EOTF" If any one of these elements is missing, the UHD Alliance Premium logo may not be used on content. (This is the rainbow hourglass shaped logo) So, a UHD BR without HDR will not be premium certified. The UHD Alliance recommends the following mastering display specifications: • Display Reproduction: Minimum 100% of P3 colors • Peak Brightness: More than 1000 nits • Black Level: Less than 0.03 nits http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...ent-Experience |

I just unpacked my player. The packaging is pretty nice for a Samsung unit. It's also heavier than I was expecting. The unit is about 15" in length and it barely fit on one of my av shelves. Another nice surprise is this is 802.11ac capable which will make for faster updates. The remote also has some weight to it and is about the same size as the Amazon Fire TV remote. Browsing through menu options is still a tad sluggish, although not nearly as bad as 1st gen BD players. I'd still like it to be a little smoother, but that's being a little nitpicky.

Ok, I just sampled about 10 minutes of UHD Kingsmen. A few observations:
1) no internet required to play the disc (I disconnected the ethernet before loading). 2) disc loaded in 20 seconds 3) UHD movie looked significantly sharper than the included BD playing on my Oppo (I don't have HDR on my Sony65X900A). Don't know if it's because I'm looking at higher native resolution or not, but it easily looks better. Colors look the same (at least, as far as I could tell). 4) No extras on the UHD. They are on the BD. 5) Going to disc menu during the movie takes you out of the movie, but it will resume after you go back to the movie 6) Resume feature does work after turning off the player. I'll check it out more later, but so far the PQ looks very good! Last edited by bruceames; 02-11-2016 at 11:25 PM. |
