Game companies need to strike a fine balance though. Triple A titles like a GTA IV or Metal Gear Solid 4 can be launched at anytime and sell well. Titles that aren't at that level do run the risk of getting buried under the avalanche of releases during the holiday so, that should be considered. Ubisoft made a huge error a few years ago releasing Beyond Good and Evil, at the same time as Prince of Persia: Sands of Time during the holiday season. Both games received huge critical acclaim, but guess which one I plucked out of a bargain bin for $10 that January? I guess the one thing I'm happy for is that Killzone 2 was bumped back to February. It gives Killzone 2 more time for polish, and it gives both KZ2 and Resistance 2 their own time to shine. Sony needs to keep pushing out more triple A titles though to help counter the 360s extensive library - especially now given the 360's recent price cut. Keep in mind though, you certainly don't have to buy and play all the holiday releases at once, so just enjoy them one at a time. I still have several titles I pre-ordered that I've barely been able to try out, let alone dig into. I just started playing COD 4 this past week, and I pre-ordered it! |
