Default Import DVDspot collection in DVD Profiler

I thought I'll make a separate thread for this since many of us here were using DVDspot... So anyway, here's a way to import your DVDspot collection (or backup file) in DVD Profiler.

==================================================
UPDATE:

There is a new plugin to import the .csv file directly in DVD profiler.

The plugin is available here.

The instructions to use it are available here: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?t...742507#M742507

I haven't tried it myself but it looks as you will be able to import additional info entered in DVDspot, such as the purchase date, review, price, etc. I will try it tonight and report back!
==================================================

This method will allow you to import your collection with the UPC codes, all the other info from DVDspot will not be imported:

1- Export your DVDspot (hurry up it closes oct 15): In the Membership tools page, click on Export to file. You'll get to another page and then you have to click Export. You'll get a zip file containing a .csv file.

2- Download and install DVD Profiler. I registered my copy... (I'm hoping the program will work for some time at least!).

3- Get the Import UPC plugin and install it.

4- Convert the .csv file to a .txt file using excel (or another software like it).
- To do it, open excel and in a new document select Data > Import External Data > Import Data.... Select your file.
- The Text Import Wizard will show up. In the first page of the wizard, select the file type as Delimited (by default it's at Fixed width). Click Next.
- In the second page, select Coma as the Delimiter (you can uncheck the Tab delimiter but I think it won't be a problem). Click on Next.
- In the third page, change the Column Data Format from General to Text for the first column (UPC), this will prevent excel from removing the "0"s in front of some UPC numbers which will not be recognized after in Profiler. Click Finish, and select New worksheet.
- You should get an excel file with your dvdspot library in separate column starting with the UPC. (The import function of the plugin in profiler, only needs the first column with the UPC, therefore you could remove all the other columns, but you can leave it as is since the program will not process the info after the UPC).
- Save it as a txt file. I used unicode text for the file format. I didn't tried the other formats since this one worked. Excel will tell you that the file format doesn't support multiple sheet only the active sheet will be saved, clik OK. Then excel will tell you that some features are not supported... click Yes.
- You should end up with a not so convenient .txt file...
5- Open DVD Profiler (version 3). If it was already opened when you installed the plugin, close it and reopen it. Then click on Import UPC List>Import from file command in the Tools menu. Select your .txt file. The plugin will now import the UPC from the .txt file.

6- You'll end up with a list of *** Imported UPC <number> in your Wishlist. Fear nothing, this is normal!

7- To get the proper name and info, click Refresh Updated Profiles in the Online menu. This will take some time.

8- Once it's finished, click on the Import UPC List>Fix Sort Titles in the Tools menu. This will fix the sort name which was still something like *** Imported UPC <number>.

9- Then your done... You can move the titles from your wishlists to the ordered and owned lists and add some of the info like ratings, date of purchased, etc. for individual titles...

Note: While this works for most titles, if an UPC is not in their database, you will still have some *** Imported UPC <number> in your list... (I have something like ~30 out of like 480 titles, it may be because I'm from Canada so some titles have different UPC as US ones). Well anyway, you're gonna have to manually enter everything for those titles (if anybody knows a better way, tell me!). We still have some time before DVDspot shuts down so I suggest getting started!!!

p.s. send me corrections if required and I'll update this!
