I don't just think "it's not a bad show". I actually think it's a very good show. And as a Sherlock Holmes series, I actually prefer it to Sherlock. There are far too many times when Sherlock seems a bit too much like a fan-wank. I love Cumberbatch and Freeman, but I don't find the episodes them particularly interesting.

Elementary doesn't try to adhere to the letter of the Sherlock canon, but I think it's truer to the spirit of the Sherlock canon. Yes, sometimes the specific plots can be average, and it sometimes plays hob with characters from the canon, but at its best, I think the cases are very clever, and Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are very convincing as Holmes and Watson, and I find that I like them as those characters just as much as I like Cumberbatch and Freeman.
