I own both versions in SD and I love the EE versions. So i will wait and see what version will be release, cause i cannot and will not fall for the con on the regular version on BD and then surprise
![]() I fell for that once with Rush Hour 3. I waited as long as i could to see if they were going to release all 3 on Blu. Not hearing anything i picked it up and wouldn't you know as soon as i watched i heard to news of them release the 3 together. sigh Last edited by Blurayne; 10-08-2008 at 07:10 PM. |

maybe they'll do both in one, seemless branching. That would be the best of all, although I agree they will probalbly sell them seperatly. Just wait for the extendeds. If we don't the movie companies will never learn

I see this scenario repeated many times: The LOTR Blu-rays have just been announced (theatricals only) and the anonymous BD collector sits and stews, thinking, "I'm waiting for the extended editions. That'll teach those greedy b******s at Warner! Wait! If no one buys the theatrical versions, maybe those greedy b******s at Warner will think there's no demand for LOTR films on BD and they'll never release the EE! Ahhhhhh!! Must! Preorder! Now!"

What I hope is that they use the Alan Lee artwork in the same manner of the extended DVDs. I love how they made the DVDs look like old worn books with the box that holds all three. I still will only purchase the extended editions, however. I cannot imagine ever wanting to watch the theatrical again (as good as they were). The extended editions were beyond terrific. In a perfect world they were even have Bombadil, the Old Forest, and the Scouring of the Shire. I can dream, can't I? But anyway, if Warner truly wants to reward the fans and they want multiple releases, they would release the extended editions first, then the theatrical.

In a perfect world, all the scenes with Denethor would be sent back for major re-writes to bring them into compliance with the novels. The Denethor scenes are a tragedy -- so well played and shot, so wrong-headed in the writing. Denethor sends Boromir to bring the Ring back to Gondor? Denethor isn't driven mad by Sauron because Denethor is using a Palantir? He's just upset because his favorite son died? Come on... |

I'll buy all of them.
This thread is evidence that not everyone can be pleased. People SCREAMED for LOTR to be release on blu-ray. Now, there's a print that shows it's "coming soon" and people are throwing conjecture all over the place.... I haven't seen a single thing announced about the specs/edition on this. I'll reserve my opinion until I see the annoucements. |

The only requirements that I think will make this the BEST BD release, and the best way to release these films, are not that hard, but might be too demanding for the format....
1- At LEAST the EE editions, if not Seamless Branching. 2- HD lossless audio (compressed for size restrictions) (7.1 would be best). 3- Each movie on 1 disc. 4- All the extras from all the DVDs on separate discs (as many in HD as possible too). 5- Really nice packaging. I can't wait! |

2- Absolutely. The EE DVDs already have DTS 6.1, so it's obvious the master data is already there for 7.1 DTS-HD MA. 3- This would be very convenient, but if the movie takes up too much space on one BD-50 for the commentaries to be included as well, I'm perfectly fine with splitting the movie onto two discs. 4- All the standard definition extras will be able to fit onto a BD-50. If they decide to rerelease them in HD though, it may require an additional disc. 5- I think that's pretty much a given. The Lord of the Rings EE DVDs have the best packaging of any release I've seen. ![]() Last edited by LORDs_angellos; 10-09-2008 at 08:45 PM. |

Not true -- the Extended Cut was re-scored by Howard Shore, so its a bit more complicated than missing shots.

My wife has only seen the theatrical versions. We started watching the Extended cuts, roughly one hour a night four nights ago, and she's loving it. She keeps saying, "Why don't I remember this?" and I have to remind her she's watching a version she's never seen, with entire swaths of story beats restored to the narrative. We pick up on disc 3 tonight. She cried last night at the end of Fellowship, but then, who doesn't?

As long as I get the EE's with lossless audio, I don't care if they come in a Hefty bag.
